I'm just sort of curious how it is that someone can be nominally legitimately accused of hypocrisy for not doing two things that she doesn't have the authority to do.

By troll farmers and their useful idiots who want to depress blue turnout in the election by leveraging the average Americans' (yes even the oh so theory read leftists) political illiteracy both in terms of what a president actually has authority to do and also in terms of what possible consequences might actually be on the line if you just flip the table like these people are demanding.

And before anyone shows their ass, I'm Palestinian American, my grandfather's family are Nakba victims still stuck in Jordan, and I'm much more worried about Truck Nuts McGee feeling re-emboldened to threaten my life in public for wearing my Kufiya than I am about feeling like some kind of traitor or hypocrite for voting for Biden despite pulling my hair out over how much he's at least publicly soft gloving Netenyahu.

Baddi A3eish, Bedna N3aesh.

Flipping the table creates terrorism, ie every instance of the US occupying foreign territories...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Not every instance, Western Europe and Japan post war were pretty smooth transitioning out of occupation.

I think the difference is that with them the US had actually fully subdued the enemy force in question before switching to occupation mode

The victor is not victorious until the vanquished considers themself so.

Clearly Yanis means the USA not her specifically. He is critiquing the contradiction between the current action taken by the USA and the spin that its representatives broadcast to mollify people concerned about an ongoing genocide. Isn't that crystal clear? We all know, Yanis knows, you even know, that Harris is not the sole arbiter of America's culpability in this mess so the inference is clear. He is speaking towards the institution that she as Vice President is a figurehead of, the USA.

But shouldn't this imply unity in the governing body and that every opinion of every high bureaucrat expressing the common opinion? Otherwise it seems a bit illogical to attack specific claims by a specific person even if that person is VP

No. Because contex matters.

[–] Dkarma 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The context is that the Vp has no power This pic makes no sense.

Maybe it makes no sense to you. Maybe you cannot understand simple inferences. That's not the end of the world.

But, the problem here is that a review of the aggregation of your comments on other topics would lead me to believe that you are a functioning adult. One that it is able to play with nuance and one that is fiercely partisan in their belief's.

So instead of playing your condescending game, of trying to exhaust commenters that have opinions you disagree with, why not be a little braver and just spell out your actual position. People are generally civil on this forum. Engage with them honestly.

Thank you for saying this in a way that it could sorta land... I should know better than to try to articulate a nuanced point in response to the "umm actually" crowd.

There will be no end to tying all of the warfare to the US.

Israel and HAMAS are being used to divide the US before the election.

[–] FenrirIII 11 points 7 months ago

And the fascist Republicans are the ones benefiting.

[–] DoYouNot 1 points 7 months ago

It's tied to the US for very good reason. Israel is effectively a vassal state to the US, and the US has used its veto power at the UNSC dozens and dozens and dozens of times to block resolutions directed at Israel, all while providing it with arms to commit atrocity after atrocity. If you don't see how the US is deeply enmeshed in this, you are simply misinformed. This situation wouldn't happen wothout US interference.

yanis is a weirdo who constantly oversimplifies problems.

[–] cosmicrookie 0 points 7 months ago

I dissagree. It is a complicated situation yes. But the hypocrisis in this case is indeed obvious and very straight forward.

His economic views maybe can be too simplified but overall I think he's quite brilliant

Yeah I don't think this is all on her - whether Israel continues to be armed by the U.S. She may have power but not the power to decide single-handedly how this operation is carried out. But I agree, she needs to help push for an end to Israel's campaign of genocide. At least she's coming out on the side of stopping this and blaming Netanyahu (which will fall on deaf ears anyway).

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

we're not going to isolate Israel, that's exactly why they were attacked in the first place.. so many stupid people with access to a keyboard..
