Also The Cool Dad in '23 Starter Pack. Right? Right guys? I'm still cool right? The Discman still works!

Buddy, you better believe it. I could do jumping jacks and Avril Lavigne's Skater Boi will still be coming through these headphones loud and clear so long as I don't knock the cable loose from the aux port.

[–] Dorgel 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Lol wut? In 96 you'd be listening to return of the mack. In skaterboi era you'd had a studded belt and a trucker hat

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

My clothing style stopped updating in 96. My music tastes stopped updating in the mid 2000's alt rock era.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Ah, so you're a Nickel back fan. Got it.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It is my deepest shame that Nickelback was one of about 6 cds I owned in middle school. I listened to it so much that I began to hate it. "Photograph" is now like an ice pick to my ear drums. So while I did eventually get to the righteous place of not being able to stand their music, I did so in the least acceptable way possible. I'm so sorry for my vile sins.

We still think you're hot because you were hot in 1996.

That hairstyle! I remember many boybands just like Backstreet Boys and many celebrities having that hairstyle. Wallet chains never really go out of style, I have a bigger and longer one than the one in that picture.

It's getting cold outside, don't forget your Starter jacket!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

I can hear the swooshing

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Starter jacket? This is a finisher jacket!

[–] [email protected] 14 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Ye gods, the Surge. I can still taste it.

[–] bus_factor 7 points 11 months ago

Still sold in Norway, just called Urge there.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I have no idea who's making it, but I still come across random pallets of the stuff in Walmart and the like about twice a year. Always either 12-pack cans or 6-count bottles. Never individual bottles.

Every time I'm tempted to buy some, just to see if this random store in Alabama is offloading product from 2006.

If ur in the U.S. some burger kings have it on tap.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

[–] instamat 7 points 11 months ago

Yeah he was an asshole if I remember correctly

Replace that album with Less Than Jake's "Anthem" and you're basically me (not that I don't love Rage, I just like ska more)

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I saw a kid with frosted tip. So I pointed him out to a friend and quietly snickered. Then we saw two more, and now I feel old.

The teenage mullet craze the last couple years has driven me crazy. Dont know if that's just a thing around here in the Midwest or not, but it's as ugly and stupid looking now as it was in the 80s. And all the jock teenagers are wearing crocs with tall black socks and matching solid color sweatpants and sweatshirts looking like homeless power rangers. My foster son also wears Ugg slippers like 70% of the time even though he owns like 9 pairs of shoes. Sometimes he steals my house slippers to wear to school too. I don't get it. A couple months ago he looked at some perfectly normal looking plaid button up shirt that I would totally wear and said with disdain "that looks like something you would wear". I gave him the old, "listen here, you little shit...". I think I'm officially too old for modern "fashion".

[–] thorbot 7 points 11 months ago

I’m in this picture and I don’t like it

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This is EXACTLY when I learned I was gay.

[–] Aggravationstation 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What, when you looked at that meme?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago
[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Pretty sure I have that yomega at home in my yoyo drawer.

Chicks dig yoyos or that's what I tell myself when I take them out.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Any who don't aren't worth your time.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

I'll always remember being mid 20s and the look this girl gave me when I showed up looking like a hip hop punk with a yoyo spinning on dundas and university in Toronto. Needless to say we didn't have another date lol

Twilight Town resident starter pack.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Those shoes are to small to fit a TT resident. Same pattern, but you gotta get that toe cap about 10 times bigger.

To a first grader like me? Super cool.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

96' I was 12 and yes. This was like 80% of the kids in school. Also, I feel called out.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

Hell yeah Arch Linux sneakers

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

All this tells me is I need to either buy or create CDs and find a vintage CD player/headphones. I'm totally down!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not American and never heard of these yomega but I definitely had a couple of these bad boys:

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I wonder, did y'all go through a yo-yo craze around the same time?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think so, was definitely around 96-98 for me.
