It kinda feels like the old DT of reddit sans reddit. Kinda feels like home away from home and it’s you guys who are helping. I’m glad I decided to join this place after all. Feeling happy and slightly teary? You all are good eggs in my book

The firing of the employee went down earlier today.

They decided to turn it into a resignation to save face.

Had to step in to prevent it turning into an argument with their manager, but handled it well.

The employee thanked me for my professionalism when I walked them to their car, and they hugged me goodbye.

So glad I held a debriefing with their team afterward. It honestly helps me as much as it helps them.

Still feeling a bit from it. So my self care starts now with a curried cauliflower pie from Country Cob

being poor poemRent has been paid, and now it's quite tight
I'll spoil the puss because he's my light.
Not enough for my meds so it'll be hard tonight,
Too many night-terrors, but I should be alright!
Things will get better, this is just a tough spot,
I will get better, I will improve my lot.

Theverge.com has some updates on the reddit saga. Basically, reddit says get stuffed. So if the r/Melbourne mods are gonna stick to their guns get comfortable gang. We ain’t going anywhere any time soon.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (8 children)

I've crept back to Reddit a couple of times over the last few days but honestly... there's some weird communities that people are clinging on to that are now appearing on r/all that I'm just like "if this is what Reddit is to become, maybe it's a good thing that I just walk away."

I'm happy enough in here, provided we retain a good percentage of the old DT gang. We might need to recruit or hope that we gain enough traction to increase our numbers of great people eventually, but for now, this will have to do :)

Ok I’m just gonna say it. Ok I’ll just whisper… I miss reddit, this doesn’t feel the same. Strangely, I also feel ghosted? Melbourne reddit gone without a trace. The other city subs are back, but Melbourne still in lockdown (and there wasn’t even a press conference.) It is a good space here, but I don’t know I am nostalgic I guess.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The DT is a like grassroots digital community that shows respect and kindness to each other that other subreddits could only dream about. With a new moderator that is known and quite frankly kicking arse so far. and we don’t need to provide reddits CEO with more money through advertising dollars when we are literally on the ground floor of something new and exciting here.

We can build this place however we want.

How could Dan Andrews do this to us?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (15 children)

I'll loudly agree, it felt so sudden and the locking of the whole sub at 4pm that day was frankly a little shitty.

So has there been any updates on the Reddit saga? I’m low key loving that I get to live through a part of internet history for once. I hardly used Twitter. I wasn’t on iPhone for the privacy breaches. I think this is the first big scandal I get to witness first hand. Well, except maybe the blaster worm back in ‘03.

In a story that’s 100% my own fault for not learning, I’m battling Amazon. So that vacuum I complained about the other week? The one I brought for 495ish then dropped to 400ish 2 days later? Amazon wouldn’t price match. They said to just return the order and reorder it again. I didn’t. I brought from JB for 400 and sent the more expensive one back to Amazon who proceeded to charge me a “change of mind return fee” of 7 bucks after previously claiming I wouldn’t be charged. Now it’s just 7 bucks, I’ve wasted far more on things before, but because of how shit they’ve been I decided to fight it.

They are claiming they can’t offer me the 7 dollar refund as anything other than credit, but I keep telling them that I’m not gonna buy anything from them anyway so refund me the money as I’m legally I’m entitled too and for them to either get their shit sorted or I’m gonna charge back the full amount on the credit card.

Far out people don’t buy from Amazon cause if someone goes wrong it’s a fucking nightmare!

Mr. Omoikiri’s turn to pick the movie tonight. We’re watching 13 Lives, the movie about the rescue of the Thai boys in the cave.

Honestly the most fucked up thing. It’s such a feat of humanity and whatever other higher power there is that they all made it out alive and there was only one casualty in the whole operation.

Also no mention of Musk’s submarine, which is a plus. 👍

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (6 children)

It’s sad that the one casualty was the man trying to rescue the kids 😔

Dinner was pita bread spread with cream cheese, smoked salmon and pickles, rolled and sliced into pinwheels. With a glass (or three) of vino. Dessert was peppermint aero. Will do nutrition tomorrow, I promise.

Lord give me the STRENGTH to get through my work today.

I need to get an entire draft of my thesis to my supervisors by the end of the day and I gotta pull a couple of thousand words outta my arse to meet my target. It’s not gonna be a fun one.

Ya Llab here, rolled out of bed with enthusiasm to find we have no water… 🤬 Got notice for when they were supposed to fix whatever it is the other day then they didn’t bother to inform everyone they couldn’t fix it.

I have officially sponged in a bottle of soda water. 😂

Also I have the grumps because it’s completely thrown out my day…

Ah well, might just have to go for a ride. 😈

What a clusterfuck of a week. Desperate times call for desperate measures so I'm finishing off this already-opened bottle of wine that's been sitting in my kitchen since last weekend. In the words of Bernard Black - "the older the wine is...the gooder it is..."

Well, I have just confirmed the circle with a cross through it under comments blocks the user and does not, as I hoped, hide the comment. Pressing it again does not reverse the first one, it just doubles down and blocks them twice.

After a bit of searching I found the list to unblock is on the settings page, on a second tab.

I try my best to be "fuck Nestlé" but they've brought out an orange Aero and it's pretty good 😭

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Man it looks amazing out there today. Pity I have 30 emails to answer this morning. Volunteering has its ups and downs but I got such amazing feedback yesterday from my manager and then still couldn't work cos my brain was too foggy. So I'll try and pull a big effort today and get as much done as I can so it's not all up to someone who really doesn't have the time.

Anyone else done AA? I've found a zoom group which is always online and at the very least just listening is helping, and I get a sense of calm when for the last three months I've been a complete anxious mess most days. I was worried they'd try and talk about de-transition but they've actually been super trans-positive and sensitive. I need sensitivity in my life as I've upped my oestrogen intake by 50% this week and it's feeling pretty amazing but yeah, deeper. Only a few more days alcohol withdrawl to go and I'll be steady enough to get back on my skateboard, though I'm going to try again today anyway.

Mr Smeg thinks we should have a bite to eat before grocery shopping at Knox.

Can't decide on Studfield Dumplings or something at Ozone.

A new retail section opened at Knox last weekend so will be good to have a proper squiz at the new JB and Rebel.

I know he's on his way and I should get dressed, but sitting in my Oodie listening to PBS is my happy place

I have found that setting my default sorting to Subscribed and NewComments has resulted in a better default feed. You do need to have enough community subscriptions for this to be beneficial.

The default sorting works for both the Jerboa app and the desktop website. We should have a post thread suggesting active fediverse communities for people to subscribe to, as they aren't that easy to find yet.

I went into an Asian store in Airport West yesterday and spent way too much money on shit I can't even read. I have come to the conclusion I think I really like Fanta, I think? I got like 5 Fanta products I've never seen before

Also, this green Thai "mixed fruit" Fanta actually tastes pretty decent. Pic for the curious:

Resubmission of my last TAFE assignment is complete. Nothing major, but it involves about 14 billion different files to submit the assignment, so it is quite possible I missed something about which ones I needed to redo.

In my dream I had finally gotten the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game to work at the pub. It was all new and shiny and awesome. It allowed branching paths for a more narrative-rich story. Was just hitting up the first lot of footclan soldiers when the alarm went off.

I could have fucking cried.

Happy Friday y’all!

Thinking I'll take off tomorrow for another one of my overnight weekend roadtrip adventures to get out of my apartment. I quite enjoyed driving along listening to my audiobook on my last one to Swan Hill rather than my usual Spotify playlists.

Not sure where to head this time though.. time to consult Ye Olde Google Maps.
