Back in my day we played Jedi Academy with realistic saber combat and dismemberment enabled through the command console

I still think about this. It's so weird playing Jedi Survivor if you're paying attention at all to the saber. There was a Rancor fight, you slice that thing about a million times with a saber, then in the finisher animation you cut its leg off with one slice.

Used to be in Outcast/Academy that you could be standing still and still kill a dude if the saber was even contacting him idly.

g_saberrealisticcombat 1 club

(in jedi outcast at least, I don't recall if it's different in academy)

Bro CTF in Outcast was how I spent every weekend back in the day.

Those crazy little commands you could use to change the color and shades of your name. The duel combat that could happen in the middle of matches. Was such a dope game.

That would be much more fun to play if it was like that

Hell yeah. Shredding regular soldiers is fine.

Just add bigger baddies that you have to slice and dice and keep going. And enough volume of regular soldiers to punish you if you're reasonable in your position.

A sengoku/dynasty warriors style jedi game could work. Mowing down hundreds of enemies is within reason for a really powerful force wielder.

I'm imagining the flashback battle in Fellowship, with Sauron blasting groups of soldiers out of the way, just as Darth Vader instead.

Vader loses his lightsaber, decides to slam people with a hunk of metal instead

Wait wait wait.... this was more civilised?

lol for real, this is barbaric

Pretty sure that should also leave huge gouges in the floor, ceiling and walls, too

Jedi survivor with the purity perk is like this. These dismemberments are a little better but you can lop off arms and legs in survivor.

@waterhouse You are right, good point. That's actually "Lore Accurate". :D lol Realistic != Lore Accurate

Most sci-fi canon is so flexible you can shoehorn just about anything in to it. Mandalorean steel can block it by some magic, so not really all penetrating lol
