I used to provide security for a club that held a lot of queer dance parties. It's pretty flattering to be hit on by gay guys. They'll give you honest compliments that most women won't.

I think it's neither? I believe he meant, "Gay guys will give honest compliments, whereas women won't." That's been my experience, too. I really wish women were half as open and kind in approaching as gay guys have been.
