It would be nice to be able to consolidate posts from multiple communities into a single view/feed- for example, combining the two !gaming communities on both Lemmy.ml and Beehaw.org. is this possible currently?

There's an open issue on the github for how to potentially handle collections of communities.

I checked through few pages of issues and couldn't find it.

I see you’ve been around here much longer than most of us redfuges; are the Lemmy devs active or is there a possibility we won’t see a multireddit/community collection function, like, ever
