Personally I don't like comparing Elon to Elmo, Elmo is a good person. I get that it infantilizes Elon, but in my mind there is nothing negative about Elmo, and it grinds my gears when people call that human waste by the name of such a sweet caring individual.

I've worked in a lot of grocery stores in multiple states for over a decade and this has never been true in my experience. Staff puts their hand on it, if its cold it goes back in the cooler, if it's warm it gets tossed. It is not a definite garbage item despite the lingering urban myth. If it is true its a store policy at one company, and it must be regional because no major national chain does this.

He chose Bombadil because he didn't have a use anymore in his own, older stories and Tolkien wanted him to live on happily ever after in Middle Earth. Tom was first, those stories came first, he is Eldest, conceived before the first acorn of Middle Earth, before the trees and lamps. He lived on past the death of his own universe and settled in Middle Earth. That's why is not affected by the laws of Middle Earth, his ways are older and stranger. Goldberry is a Maiar who knows all this.
