The community fully approves of this solution. :)

Most folks who would stumble into a Pocketknife sub have a mental list of knives that would be great to add to the collection and I'm curious what is on other folks radar?

I am very picky about my collection and generally only get knives I will carry and use, so my list of options is always super short, but the one knife I am most excited for and (patiently?) waiting the next 6 months for is the Winter Blade Co. Factor B3. While I've never held one, I've seen enough videos of the previous versions to know that it will hit all my buttons (fidget-ey, carbon-ey, magna cut-ey).

So what do you want to add?

Pretty sure that this knife makes up about 90% of all "first knife" gifts as kids. I started with one (and promptly stabbed myself with it) and still keep one handy in my backpacking kit. It might not be fancy but sure is useful.

Thanks! 26 years old and still going strong. I had fun playing with my laser to add some design touches and keep it feeling fresh.

I honestly don’t know! I picked it up years ago for peanuts when I was interested in playing with mechanical movements. It does keep decent time.

  1. Well, I started with Nintendo handhelds in '89 with the Gameboy and played the living heck of that, but over the years moved to primarily TV-based consoles. Recently though, in my old age, I picked up some of the portables I never had and have a reshelled DS and a Hyrule 3DS XL. The 3DS is right behind my PS5 as favorite system of all time, mainly since it's hacked and I can run all the games of my youth from all systems.

  2. It's certainly due to when I was most active in gaming as a kid but any Mario sidescroller will forever live in my heart. Pick a flavor, any system, if it has a plumber and he runs and jumps, it's my favorite

  3. I don't really have any niche games on the DS systems these days, but if you want something really silly and esoteric, grab Penguin Wars for the Gameboy. It's one-dimensionally terrible, annoying and utterly delightful.

I desperately wanted one but couldn't do it at the time, and since I already have an "antique" Mac Pro G5 sitting here (in working condition!) that I never use, feels like putting a trash can in the mix woulnd't be my smartest move at this point. :D

Cool machine though, glad to see you still have one that is usable and kicking it!

Of course, once you start it's never enough so I recently added an Emisar D1.12 to the mix, and that one is just kinda silly, but fun to do night walks with. The throw channel with a green W2 LED is rather obnoxious, I feel bad using it in a neighborhood. :D

It's still early days here in the Fediverse, but I was surprised to see that there was no place to chat about our friend the pocket knife. So, PocketKNIFE is born!

Not knowing how all this will shake out, PocketKNIFE exists on both Lemmy.world and kbin.social, so feel to use one or the other, or both, whatever floats your boat.

Enjoy this new platform and let's all ave fun talking about our collections and our pokey little pals.

It’s tough for a newb to figure out all the potential combos of options, but yes that is an utterly excellent pocket light. The aluminum one is probably the best for EDC, with lighter weight and generally better thermal handling. The boost driver is a must, if you intend to use it regularly and not just have it be a show-off light.

I have had a small knife in my pocket everyday for about 35 years but have maintained an incredibly picky attitude about my collection 😂, so my "knife per year" ratio is very low, but here are my current top 3 knives which end up in my pocket.

  • Shirigorov Hation Zero, blue carbon
  • 1997 Chris Reeve Sebenza, small, custom laser engraved design
  • Rockstead Hizen

What knives end up in your pocket most often?

It’s great to have new spaces, especially ones not controlled by corporate interests or venture capitalists. I will admit that (while it’s a function of time + engagement) I do miss the breadth and depth of Reddit, particularly for the niche hobby communities. There was/is so much good information on there that will take many years to replicate elsewhere.

My current setup, though I’ll probably change it in a month. Yes I have a Windows machine as well but I compensate with two MacBook Pro M1’s and an iPad. 😄

I hope I also get bonus points for the Mac Pro G5 (that still works!), the Mac Mini in my network rack and the still functional Newton MessagePad 100.

I’m excited, not so much for this product (since it’s clearly for developers, business or the rich only) but what v3 will be like. The focus on AR is smart IMO, and the performance and fidelity I’ve heard from every reviewer is very encouraging. As someone that works on computers all day everyday (and has for 35 years) the possibility of getting rid of monitors and being able to use any space to work is interesting. I’m getting too old to sit at a desk all day. 😄

While I’ve had flashlights of some sort around for 30 years, I recently discovered Emisar (better known as Hanklights) and added a few to the collection. Here’s a shot of the aux LEDs doing their thing. 😄 (This is a D2, DT8 and D4V2)

Also, hope that Lemmy can grow and be a great place to share our hobbies.
