So we should raise our pitchforks at the everyday normal people who were riding totally legally along the right side of the lane, not more than two abreast, not holding up more than 5 vehicles, when a lunatic in a >5 ton RV decided it would be fine to pass with less than a mirrors width of space at 45 mph?

Taking this comment at face value, I would absolutely agree.

I agree that hitting the cyclist looks unintentional. And very sorry to hear that so many folks in your life have been taken by vehicle accidents.

When you say that this is, "just an unfortunate accident", it sounds like a defense of the RV drivers poor decision-making that led to very serious injuries of others, hence the downvote.

At the very least, Arizona and many other states should require a separate license and training to operate an RV that size.

And yeah, regardless of vehicle, it was an incredibly stupid (and illegal) decision to pass that closely.

BTW, AZs 3 ft passing law limits civil penalties to $500 if serious injury is causes, $1000 if death.

Dont know if the driver could be found negligent in a civil lawsuit?

I may very well stick with splitwise given that most friends are familiar and there are nice features. Just wanted to know if a Foss alternative can even come close.

Any recommendations for a splitwise equivalent for android? An initial search on fdroid only shows apps last updated in 2019. "Split it easy" lacks the ability to split bills paid by multiple people. I also liked the ability to use foreign currency in splitwise.

I just wanted to share this great resource that not only compiles studies on the benefits of trails of all types, but nicely summaries each one so you can easily decide what to spend more time reading.

I mean...yes? Absolutely, improve rail infrastructure in Albany and Syracuse. Build park and rides at places that feed into that improved system. Improve bus service (or train? Looks like there are already tracks in many places) along higway corridors with moderately sized communities.

Can counties or cities currently afford this without sacrificing something? No.

Would the federal government and states need to spend hundreds of billions, if not trillions, over several decades to make happen? Yes.

80% of Americans live in urban settings

Provide regularly scheduled public transportation that feeds into denser urban areas. Make it easy to bike in denser urban areas.

When the weather is nice you could ebike.
