Wow. Qix for the GameBoy has a pretty weird game over screen! The whole game is super abstract — and then this!
It’s a good port, though!

@[email protected] no, it is very different compared to the MD version. I guess this version and the MasterSystem version might be the same.

These first two levels are impressive and have lots of parallax scrolling, nice colors and even some subtle perspective 3D effects. This is definitely peak GameGear and in my opinion beats the GameBoy version. Disney games on SEGA consoles are mostly VERY good titles.

There are two versions: A Japanese one and a World version. The Japanese version seems slightly different apart from the language. The first two levels are action scenes where Aladdin is running through Agrabah and over the rooftops. Both sequences seem a bit longer in the Japanese version.

The game features lots of cut scenes that tell the movie‘s story. This is extremely useful and also very well done. The graphics are some of the best I have seen on the GameGear. Remember: this is a Z80 system with only a few kilobytes of RAM!

Next game on the GameGear: Aladdin. This is truly an amazing game, and one of the few I actually completed a couple of times. It helps that it has a password system…

Another game from my GameGear flash cart: Aerial Assault. A very solid horizontal SHMUP. Nothing special, but fun.

A 2D scene showing highrise buildings in a city. Spaceships coming in from the right while the player‘s plane is at the top left.

And the next GameGear game: The Adventures of Batman and Robin. An ok-ish jump and run with multiple weapons. Seems a bit boring though. Doesn’t hold a candle to the amazing MegaDrive version.

A pixelated video game scene featuring a character in a blue and gray costume with a flowing cape, standing on a ledge of a building against a nighttime city backdrop filled with skyscrapers. The screen displays a score of 01540.
A pixelated video game scene featuring a character dressed in a blue and gray outfit, standing on a path with trees in the background. There is a film set lamp at the right, and the screen displays a timer and a health bar at the top.

And next on the GameGear: Addams Family. This is a classic platformer. Lots of small tricky sequences. I found the controls and collision detection lacking. Graphics look great for a GameGear game, though. But this is no Sonic… no level passwords, no continues, as far as I can tell…

An 8-bit video game scene features a character standing in front of a large tree with an expressive face. An owl is perched on a branch above, and there is a flower and some grass in the foreground, with a small amount of water visible
A pixelated video game scene featuring a character dressed in blue next to a barren tree and a ghostly figure. A skeleton lies partially submerged in water, with a health bar displayed on the left side of the image. The background is dark with hints of stars.

Next game on my GameGear: Aa Harimanada. It seems to be a Sumo wrestling game. I can‘t understand a thing. But I managed to throw down the enemy a couple of times. Has some nice Anime style finishing move cutscenes!

The image features a pixelated graphic displaying a match-up between two characters, with text in Japanese. One character is labeled as "East" with a smiling face, and the other as "West" with a serious expression. Below them is a dialogue.
An 8-bit video game scene depicting a wrestling match. One character, resembling a bear, stands while another, in a crouched position, is on the ground. The background features a cheering crowd, and various game status indicators are displayed at the top.

Backgammon is a solid implementation of the board game. Different levels give novices like me a chance to actually win!

Yacht is actually Yahtzee, but probably renamed for trademark reasons. The rules are a bit weird, full house counts as the dice values, not 25 points.

Reversi and checkers play as expected, too. I must say I am ver bad at both, failing to grab the border squares.

Chess is working as expected, but doesn't seem to have an opening library. Or not a very exhaustive one at least. Easiest level should be okay to beat for inexperienced players.

Checking out the GameGear library on my flash cart. First game is "5 in 1 Funpack" by Interplay. It's a game collection of 5 board games: backgammon, checkers, reversi, chess and yahtzee (here as "yacht").

What's up with prices for Paper Mario 64? Is anyone really paying this? Those prices make buying an Everdrive64 a no brainer...

Oh my god. Mega Man on the GameBoy is sooo hard. I have never played it before so maybe I need to practice, but I think it starts out REALLY hard.

@[email protected] Just search eBay... They are really straight forward. Bridge the solder jumpers, measure the pads to see if it worked -> done! :)
