I couldn't figure out how to describe the vibe I was getting, but you put it into words very neatly.

The Rosen Corporation - One Five Six (the-rosen-corporation.bandcamp.com)

From the album City. Nice little Blade Runner-esque ambient track.

Oh, this is lovely!

You're right, there is tiny bit of fade-out transition at the start of the next track. Starting a song with the end of the previous track is always a weird choice to me, but idk.

Album: VR SUN

For a very different vibe, try I Dream, I Die, I Dream Again from the same album.

This is great! Might have to dig through their whole discography.

Sort of synthwave-y, sort of cyberpunk.

Oh absolutely. Adore was actually the album that got me into them.

I agree with both of you. I'm very fond of everything by them up through the American Gothic EP, but Mellon Collie is still kinda the peak.

I find a lot of music via internet radio (I know, I'm old school), so I thought I'd share a couple of stations you guys might like.

  • Nightride.fm has a number of synthwave sub-genre stations, but Datawave is probably the most space-y. They do have a Spacesynth channel, but I find it veers too much into dance music (EDM? Eurodance? not sure the correct genre) for my taste; YMMV.

To listen to the following, you'll either need to use a separate music player, or find them on third-party radio sites.

  • Soma FM has Synphaera (also an indie label on bandcamp), Space Station Soma, and Deep Space One (zero beat).

  • Echoes of Blue Mars resurrects Blue Mars and Cryosleep (zero beat), two popular stations from the 2010s.

Not plot holes, although there may be some of those that I didn't notice. It's more to do with the pacing of the investigation (trying to be vague so it doesn't ruin anything for you).

EDIT: Couldn't get spoiler tags to work, so removed that part.

I enjoyed it well enough, although I actually think season 2 is better. If you're a regular whodunnit watcher, you might be mildly disgruntled at a couple of aspects in season 1, but it's still a fairly compelling watch imo.

I mean, it's subjective, right? So far, yes, I'm enjoying it more than Glass Onion, but I'm sure there are people who loved Glass Onion that won't like Death and Other Details. Besides, it's hard to judge a whole season from just two episodes. Maybe as the season goes on, the plot twists will become ridiculous, or maybe the resolution will be mindblowing. Dunno yet.

For me, it's in the "fine" category so far: nothing I'd jump to recommend to others, but engaging enough to likely watch the whole season. It's fairly light and fluffy, but I don't find it as charming as I think it's trying to be. (For comparison, I thought Knives Out was also fine, but didn't really care for Glass Onion.)

Ectoplague - Creature Feature (ectoplague.bandcamp.com)

From the album Trick or Treat. Really, their whole catalog is pretty great, if you like horrorsynth.

Zombie Hyperdrive - Old Earth (newretrowave.bandcamp.com)

From the album Imperium.

Link works for me, but here's the original article. Movie is called The Day the Crown Cried.

Agreed, the latter half especially felt like most of the storylines should have extended into another season. It seemed very clear in the last episode that they weren't sure they were getting renewed, and wanted to wrap things up nicely, just in case.

I mostly listen to horror/thriller series, so I'm looking for some lighter shows for before bed (working through Batman: The Audio Adventures right now). I'd prefer dramatized/full cast shows that don't get too complicated, with medium- to short-length episodes. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

ETA: Open to any genre.

The Endearing - Take Me Back (theendearing.bandcamp.com)

Most of the album this is from is similarly space-y. A pleasant discovery!

Some of this artist's stuff is more space-y sounding than others, but it's all pretty good chillwave.

their personal Bandcamp

From 'Limits of Desire', 2013.

Based on the book by Victor LaValle; premieres September 8 on Apple TV+.

Had no idea this was going to be a thing! Haven't read it, but I enjoyed The Ballad of Black Tom.
