Not ashamed to say I love disco, and I love where new generations have taken it. This slaps so hard.

I need some.

This should not be. But it is. Apparently, this guy owns his own nightclub in Germany and this part of his persona.

I missed the boat on Gojira. Was never a fan. Last year, I came across this video and was absolutely blown away. Awesome performance.

I don't dig the band, but this song is great.

I just updated to the most recent version of Jerboa (the Android Lemmy client), and when I tried to log in to Beehaw, I got a message saying that Beehaw's server version is older than the minimum version now required by Jerboa.

Not complaining. Just FYI.

I'm a hobbyist programmer, mostly in JavaScript, but I'd like to learn Rust. I'd like to use an open-source IDE that supports Language Server Protocol. I'm currently using WebStorm, which is not open-source, and doesn't support LSP. I've checked out VS Codium, which is open-source and does support LSP, but it seems like it's a hobbled version of VS Code that still phones home to Microsoft.

Are there and other IDEs that are FOSS and that support LSP?

Edit: Thanks everybody. I'm taking the path of least resistance and sticking with Webstorm and IntelliJ.

Let's take a moment to remember Dan Hartman. This guy managed to be in the Edgar Winter Group, make a couple of disco super hits, produced The Plasmatics, and then cranked out the 80's anthem "I Can Dream About You". He passed away in 1994, and his Wikipedia article is worth reading.

And if you're interested, here's a VERY young G.E. Smith playing bass on "Instant Replay". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW-OfaiBs9k

Probably not related to Beehaw, but might be a Lemmy issue.

This post claims to have 41 comments. https://beehaw.org/post/685756

But I only see 21 comments. Why is this? Am I not seeing comments from other instances or something?

Some would simply call it an evolution of style, and others might call it a sellout. I'd like to hear your examples of musical acts that changed so radically over time that you'd consider it a sellout.

My example would be Jefferson Starship. Their first album was "Blows Against The Empire", which was about hippies hijacking a starship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzclibWeXM8&t=1126s

Grace Slick was the first person to say "motherfucker" on television when performing their material.

They went from that to shedding personnel, renaming themselves "Starship", and making pop music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDI2WQJyE7I

What are your before and after examples that you consider a sellout?

This great song is a bit of forgotten 80's that deserves a mention. Benjamin Orr was the lead singer & bassist on most of The Cars early work which made them popular. He passed away in 2000.

By the time I found out about this band, they were already gone. Wish I could have seen them live. They're like a much heavier DEVO mixed with more punk, played on a GameBoy. Bratcore is a great song, and if you like that, then Rad is a pretty rad song too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL2jb7yiUTo

Edit: Here are the playlists for their first two albums, which are great.

Don't tell me what to do.

True. Now you've got me thinking of ways to identify and prevent accounts from scraping data. I don't see any way to do that other than rate-limiting, which just delays the problem rather than solving it.

It seems to me that the only reason Meta would embrace ActivityPub is so they can federate and scrape our data from the fediverse. Not only would I not use their platform, but I would block my instance from federating with them.

I'm thinking of spinning up an instance for my community, and would love more info on how many users you have vs server capacity vs monthly cost.

Makeup and Vanity Set did a great remix of Hurt by Vandal Moon.

This is the way. Been doing it for years.

Coming from Windows, I'm surprised you didn't stick with Mint. If you want Debian, there's a version of Mint that is Debian-based instead of being based on Ubuntu. Using that might save you a lot of grief trying to set everything up yourself.

This is fabulous. Thanks!

Not saying you're wrong, but Tesla has entire teams of people devoted to managing Elon. Twitter was never structured like that, so the company was directly exposed to his every whim.

You're wise. The entire JavaScript ecosystem is really great and hot garbage at the same time.

Thanks for working on this!
