If the love in question takes the form of enabling, then you're absolutely right. And laughing with or even quietly tolerating racist jokes is plainly enabling behavior.

The only reason that comes to mind is collective action/organizing. If you can find common ground in a social, economic, or political issue with another group, can align yourself with that group only in regards to that issue, and can in that way make progress on that issue... then do it.

You don't need to agree with people you're organizing with on anything but the thing you're organizing about.

That said, if I found myself agreeing with a proud bigot on anything at all, my first step would be a thorough recheck of my stance, its implications, and how I came to it in the first place.

The vast majority of the humans are just along for the ride as well.

That's true, it won't, but the opportunities for solving the root problem(s) are much less with said convicted criminal in power than they are with him in prison.
