hey folks, I've got a g3 imac that's been in my garage since a relative of mine passed in the 90s. He was some kind of theoretical physicist. Should I give this thing a go? Is there any particular guide to hardware from this era? Stuff like bad caps, leaking batteries etc? I'm guessing this thing probably has some kind of MacOS 9 on it. I'm out of town until next week but if I get any good tips I'll try them out when I get home. Thanks!

Depending on the model it's really easy to take out the actual computer part and replace the bios battery. Generally the caps are fine, but the bios battery is the type that likes to leak, and we're starting to see some G3 machines with exploded batteries.

If it's an earlier version there's maybe a few screws on the bottom, then you violently yank off the cover, then a few more screws and the actual computer, hard drive, and CD drive comes out as one unit.
