June 6 2023, 8:10 PM and 8:13 PM Pacific (UTC-8:00)

  1. Using Chrome on PC, clicked on this link:

https://beehaw.org/post/449198 "Dam consequences: How Nova Kakhovka's Breach Will Transform Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

  1. Clicked on the youtube link in the post (on the text title, not the video thumbnail):

https://youtube.com/watch?v=04sg2uHQK7w&feature=share9

  1. Didn't watch the video, just clicked the browser's "Back" button, got:

502 Bad Gateway nginx

If you log IP addresses in the server logs, my (VPN) address was 91.219.212.195

thanks for the report! i believe all of these were/are caused by us quickly fiddling to fix a backend thing, so they're not indicative of site instability and they shouldn't reoccur. if they do they'll be a part of that and shouldn't last more than a few minutes.

Thanks for the heads up. We're looking into it.

Do you recall what you were trying to do when these 500's occurred? Viewing posts, making a comment? etc

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Accidentally clicked downvote button.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hmm. Downvotes aren't enabled on this instance; you shouldn't even be seeing a downvote button.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They might be using Jeroba, which still displays the button, but when you try to use it you're informed that it doesn't work.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're correct. I was using the Jebora app. Also does that mean I can't downvote on an instance where downvotes are not disabled? Not saying that I disagree with the beehaw policy, just curious.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It appears to be that way, yes.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm on lemmy.ml and jerboa and the downvote shows like it's working on beehaw with no text saying it's disabled.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can you do me a favor and down vote this comment to see if the app lets you bypass the instance limitation?

Well, some unknown number of people upvoted that comment, so my test was useless.

Can you downvote this comment AND NO ONE ELSE READING THIS DO ANYTHING PLEASE!!

Thanks.

Well shit, assuming no one upvoted this one, it seems the way the instance handles the problem is just to turn your downvote into an upvote. I guess that's better than letting the downvote go through.

Edit: thanks for the help!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Well...looks like I'm going to downvote everything now! lol

I wont actually, but that's pretty funny

When I press the down vote button in Jerboa, it flashes "downvotes_disabled" but still decrements the number.

Edit: Quiting the thread and coming back, it doesn't retain the downvote so it looks like it is just the app temporarily showing it inaccurately.

Hello there, new user as well. Only using Firefox on PC also getting 500/try again in a loop. I keep hitting refresh and I eventually get in. Happening "now" 8:20am central US time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm on lemmy.ml but I got a 500 when I was trying to register a beehaw account. It wouldn't submit. Just kept spinning. When I refreshed I got a 500. Refreshed again and it was back.

Thanks for letting us know. Just restarted the server for some other changes; this was expected.

Thanks, the timestamps of your comment in relation to the server logs will help us to pinpoint what's going on. No fix yet, but troubleshooting. We've gotten better in the past few days but still more work to be done. Working on it!
