I use Namecheap. It's nice for spending your sats
Been a happy namecheap customer for probably around 10 years now, never had any issues!
I have had issues though, but their support is helpful
I used to use Google Domains, but lately I've been switching to Cloudflare. They don't have every TLD, but they have all the ones I need, and their prices are lower than Google's is.
The major issue with Cloudflare is that you're forced to use their DNS servers. I'd rather pay a little bit extra to have more freedom in how I use my domain.
Google domains was sold to squarespace
Ovh is a good option as their domains come with a free 5gb email and also IPv4 dyndns that's easy to set up. Certbot also has an Ovh api extension for easily making SSL certificates via the dns-01 challenge.
Being in EU and with Gandi bought out and increasing prices, I recently moved to Hetzner as a domain registrar.

I can recommend Hetzner without any problems
i got one from GoDaddy, but i regret the choice...
I didn't mind Godaddy until I tried to get an SSL certificate with NPM. Had to move the DNS to cloud flare to get it to work.
I love Namecheap.com.
Great pricing, and very responsive support. Unlike GoDaddy and others I've used, namecheap has never tried to fuck me over with hidden fees or sneaky auto price hikes.
I've been dealing with webhosting for 20+ years, and these guys are my go-to.
If you're just hosting within your own network, you don't need a domain name. Yes, it's best to use one that control, but it's not required.
Personally I use Namecheap. If you search previous posts, you'll find other recommendations.
While I am technically hosting in my own network to start, I would like to possibly make host my own email-server for me, my family and possibly friends and host my own discord bot and potentially a private lemmy instance to have more control about my things
Cloudflare sells domains at cost, and if you ever wanted to their proxy and ddos services are easy addons.
Cloudflare offers a lot of services, including domain registration and DNS hosting.
DO NOT buy a domain name through Gandi. They were the best when the web started (in the 90s) but now it's a scam.
