First of, Iam a long time Factorio player, played over 1k hours and looking forward to space age!

But a friend just showed me the satisfactory 1.0 release trailer. I have never had time to played it, for various reasons. And wow it looked fun, and incredibly!

So that reminded me of Factorios trailers... And my god, does it looking boring as hell. Even the new space age trailers, it's just showing the space platform, and the other trailer on the steam page is a spidertron walking around on Fulgora...

Why is it, that Factorio trailers is soo boring? It's show nothing of the gameplay or anything. Not sure where iam going with this post, was just kinda surprising to me that the trailers sucked so much compared to satisfactory

Those videos are just previews from the FFFs. My guess is they'll make a real trailer showing all the new features, similar to the main game trailers when space age is released

I certainly hope so!

Well only 11 days until we found out

Satisfactory has a 3D element that lends itself well to trailers; FPV is always going to be more engaging than isometric; Factorio doesn't even have cut scenes to lean on (thank the gods!).

Honestly, the Satisfactory previews look fantastic, but paradoxically make me not want to play the game as much. It's because of the type of game; these are resource management games, with a little conflict, and that's what I'm looking for. If I wanted conflict with a little resource management, I'd be looking at a tower defense game. The Satisfactory previews look like No Man's Sky, on steroids, and it looks too busy.

That's just me, but my point is that I think the Factorio previews do exactly what they should: appeal to the type of people who want to play an isometric resource management game.

You might be right, that 3D does make it easier to make good looking trailers.

But iam not talking about Factorio vs satisfactory gameplay.

Iam talking strictly about the trailers, so much is happening is the 1.0 trailer and it looks fun.

Where as Factorio space age dlc have 2 videos. One is just showing the space platform. And the other is the spidertron running around, showing a already build base. And I was thinking if I showed this video to a friend that had not played Factorio before, it's just doesn't look very appealing compared to the satisfactory trailer

You're not wrong

Something more comprehensive would be nice, and I bet that will happen closer to release. Assets are still being developed after all!

The 1.0 release trailer was pretty goo, but I can see how a trailer with a few more cuts could cover a lot more ground. The single-take style is reminiscent of game demos (which is how they're made too!), but it is a tad limiting.

Totally agree, I really hope they do something new for space age and potentially 2.0 if they want to market that at the same time as their dlc release

Making videos is hard. Making excellent videos is extremely hard. It's easy to go online and say something good sucks, it's harder to do it.

Maybe you need to reframe your question. Maybe you need to ask why satisfactory ones are incredible? Videos are about marketing and to bring players in. Factorio does really well from word of mouth. Do they need excellent videos when nerds online are saying "the factory must grow". If you ask me, it's more effective marketing and much cheaper.

Do you need a perfect trailer for every game you pick up?

Hmm I guess you're right, I was just amazed at how nice the satisfactory one was compared to Factorio.

Satisfactory trailers are a class of their own <3

But which trailers are you thinking of? I know of only two: The official 2020 Factorio trailer which I think shows a good mix of gameplay and "concept", and the Steam Store page snippet for Space Age showing some new things like the platform.

I was thinking of the 2 trailers on the steam page for space age dlc
