Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

New list is up! Come and get it! Let's see, for me...

Minor Arcana #2 - Jeff Lemire rules. Minor Arcana is good so far.

Groo Minstrel Melodies #2 - I didn't know Groo was still around until issue #1!

Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #5 - Been pretty good so far.

Life #2 - I'll be honest I still haven't read #1, I'm slacking.

Space Ghost #6 - Space Ghoooost! Can't wait until he gets booked on the talk show. Looks like Moltar is about to show up!

Geiger #7 - Super FalloutMan has been good, I'll keep going

Precious Metal #5 - I'm a little behind on this too but it's ok, I like the art a lot.

Looks like that's it for me this week, what's on your lists?

Let's see here...

Action Comics #1070 - New storyline!

Batman Gotham By Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #5 (Of 6) - One more to go!

Geiger #7 - All the Ghost Machine stuff is worth reading.

Life #2 - Should be another good DSTLRY project.

Rocketeer Breaks Free #3 - Digging the Doug Wheatley cover.

Space Ghost #6 - Jace quit last issue, could be interesting to see where that goes!

Ultimates #5 - Been buying these, I need to sit down and read them one of these days.

Exceptional X-Men #2 - First issue was one of the better X books since the end of Krakoa.

Sentinels #1 (Of 5) - I'll look at it, no guarantees. Some of the X-books are awful now.

+ 2 from last week I totally forgot to mention:

Skin Police #1 - Blade Runner, but with clones instead of Replicants. Clones that don't know they're clones and can go nuts if they're stressed.

Hyde Street #1 - Another Ghost Machine title. Demons compete to gather the souls of the damned in hideous EC comics/Spectre style ways.

I picked up Hyde St but haven't cracked into it yet. I can't wait for Moltar! The best producer a Space Ghost could ask for! Unfortunately they may need a new band leader but I have a feeling we'll see him again.

The only flaw I'm seeing in Ghost Machine is that it's not clear how all this is a shared universe.

Redcoat and Junkyard Joe are effectively immortal, so crossing them over with Geiger or Rook should be doable, but I don't see how Geiger and Rook themselves are related.

Hyde Street definitely also feels like it's own thing.

Yeah I've really only been following Geiger tbh, idk. Just couldn't get into the other two, and haven't read Junkyard Joe. Hyde St though, I like horror, so we'll see!

Hyde Street is basically demons competing to see who can capture the most damned souls. If you read Geiger then you saw the bit with the boy scout.

Uhhh....I'm blanking on that one lol. I remember the boy king?

Was a 6 page backup in Geiger #6 I think? Boy scout helping a little old lady across the street, but it turned out she poisoned her family so the scout does her in Spectre style.

Lol wtf is this cover art? Remember when liefeld couldn't draw feet (and the love of pouches, cant forget that) and everyone made fun of him for 30 years? This is batman, an ostensibly normal human. The head is so small, the arms are beefier than beef. What are these proportions?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lol fair, but I really like the wiggles on those rocks and the hatching on his suit haha.

I honestly dont mean that its bad. From a technical standpoint, the work is quality. That said... Just what am I actually supposed to be looking at here? Mega Brock Lesnar Batman? If Bane donned the mask... Holy shit someone needs to write that story and get this guy to draw it.
