Def highlights the reality faced by countless teachers in America—being forced to spend their own money on essential classroom supplies. It’s a stark reminder that systemic change is needed to support educators properly and ensure students have what they need to thrive.

I’ve spent my own money on items for my students like granola bars, colored paper, colored bandaids (which they actually prefer), stickers and sticker books, extra pencils and crayons, and even a Lego set for reward play. I’ve also bought sketch pads, colored pencils, and school logo shirts for spirit days. All of it in order to help create a positive classroom environment.
