I don't believe for a second that Trump doesn't know the situation, but how is that lie better? "Here's a picture of you endorsing a self-styled Nazi." Well, I'm out of the loop on that one. "You endorsed him." Yeah, but they just tell me what to say and do. I don't ask a lot of questions. "Would you denounce him now?" I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to say here. Let me check with Vlad and see what he wants me to do. I'll get back to you.
The only way this could possibly be an honest response (it isn’t) is that his dementia is now so bad that he can’t remember things that happened in the short-term.
He sure knew the situation when he was calling Robinson "Martin Luther King times two."
And "Martin Luther King on steroids." Which... does that mean he's Martin Luther King, Jr. with rage issues and tiny testicles?

It looks so incredibly dumb to say you aren't aware of the situation. At least say you're aware but don't have a comment yet pending further investigation...
Ah but see, saying that it depends on investigation implies he would end his support for Robinson under certain conditions, and we all know he has no problem with what Robinson said (even if he genuinely doesn't know what was said). More importantly, his supporters actively support those things. They also have no problem with him being uninformed.
Therefore, he'd rather try to stall until the next controversy (which will probably be next week's VP debate) at which point it will fall out of the news cycle and he can move on without saying something that would alienate his base of white supremacists.
