The Second Avenue Subway is a New York City Subway line that runs under Second Avenue on the East Side of Manhattan. The idea for the subway line was first proposed in 1919, but construction did not begin until 1972 due to a lack of funding. However, the project was halted again in 1975 due to a fiscal crisis.
