Great photo! Not easy getting close to these suckers, they're pretty keen on knowing when you're looking at them.

It's possible if you're on a beach where fishermen give them treats! I think I've gotten as close as 6 ft.

In PA it's hard to get within 50m of them before they boogie.

sometimes the ones near me that nest by trails are pretty tolerant. though, i was also at 500mm.

My white whale bird to photograph. I stumbled upon one when I just got a new camera, and I had all the settings wrong.
