Opposite problem here, I need to rush to get things in before the hot summer, but there are still plants in there from the winter garden! Decommissioned the collard greens as they get too bitter in the heat. Something ate my butternut squash seedlings and the eggplant didn't come up. Lettuce still thriving and I can't figure out if the onion and garlic are ever going to make bulbs or if I should give up. I want to start the watermelon and squash but they take so much room!

Wow, I never thought about that being a problem. Is it the heat or also the strong sunlight? Because you could imagine making some kind of shade structure.

Some plants are happy here in the summer, but our main growing season is October through May. I am going to plant Okra at the corners of the garden beds, because it seems to think the hotter the better and maybe sunflowers, then anything else in the middle.

If the garlic and onions seem like they are ok there just isn't much room - I haven't grown those before, and since it doesn't freeze here I don't know what the schedule is, going to pull a couple this weekend and look at them. Might be rotten, might be finished, might be growing, I can't tell, the above ground parts look good.

I think it's straight up heat that is the main issue in the summer, though the sun is quite direct here.

Ok I pulled one of each, and think they do need to stay in until late summer here despite fall/winter/spring being mild. The big one is garlic, the little one is onion. Looking healthy and not done yet.
