Banter and chat about the show you are watching - hopefully with everyone else watching the same show, or things will be confusing.

When I was a kid, I honestly thought that SBS stood for "Sex before Soccer", because that was the running gag when the channel started.

Today, I learned that it actually stands for "Special Broadcasting Service". I have known for some time that it couldn't actually stand for sex before soccer, but I had never bothered to learn what it did stand for.

Anyway: These recommendations are pretty much what SBS has always been famous for.

To be honest, SBS for me has always been "the channel you go to in July and at no other time, to watch the Tour de France and nothing else".

Y’all missed out. Sure SBS had nudity but fuck some of the foreign movies on there could be bangers. Most with a more indie/artsy feel. They could be complete nonsense but still. Also Inspector Rex!

Side note: Liquid Television/Evangelion Saturday nights were awesome.

We used to call the erotic films the "SBS Friday night pornos" since they always seemed to air on a Friday night.

Sex and Bloody Soccer was what we used to call it

Do you know why it was 'bloody soccer'?

[–] Outsider9042 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Because soccer is on all the bloody time

I wonder if that was because the football was on the tele after the late night foreign films. Would make sense if so.

Well, yes.
That's the entire point of the running joke in the 80's. It's just that I was a kid and when everyone agrees on what SBS stands for, you don't really question it.

Got it. I was confused at first. I thought seeing as you mentioned you were a kid you meant an actual kids game or practice which would be happening during daylight hours. I've had that kind of day.

I mean, just cause its a horny foreign feel doesn't mean people are necessarily jackin it. ok, I mean, MOST of them are.
