Smithing test. They don't show the wear that they would if they had been used for that. Just making that thing require a master smith.
I wonder what mundane items from today will be found far in the future and speculated about what they could be for. And if our plastic world will leave more or fewer of these artifacts.

Well, we've got a lot more pictures of things nowadays, so it's much easier to recognise, say, a shoulder-adapter for a bakelite phone horn, because there are pictures of people using one.

They don’t even last til the near future
The plastic shells of our disposable lifestyle will live for centuries
It's questionable how long it will last. On one hand, we can estimate the natural decay of them, but on the other hand, plastic is a resource that life could exploit and some already does. So it might just be a matter of time before plastic rots away like trees do.
Obviously ceremonial.

It looks like those baby toys we have now, where they have to put the shapes in the right slots.
