Hey everyone, It seems a lot of people are having issues verifying their email when first signing up as they are not receiving the email.

This is because around 20-30% or emails sent from [email protected] are being bounced due to being marked as spam. I'm working on fixing this at the moment, (the domain is on a domain blacklist on spamhaus.org)

In the meantime, please send an email to [email protected] from the email that needs verifying and I will verify the email manually which should resolve the issue.

Thanks, Tom

Gmail marked as spam. Found it in there and could verify then

anyone who does find it in your gmail spam make sure to hit the "not spam" button to help with the email reputation

Same, marked as not spam

Emailed and turned around within an hour or so. What a legend. Thanks friend.

Thanks for sorting mine out. Incidentally your reply to my email asking for help didn't get marked as spam (I use SpamAssassin, which scores the spamminess), just the automatic one sent from your instance.

I think the problem might be fairly temporary - looking at the headers, feddit.uk is already in the mspike whitelist and mspike h4 ("Very good reputation") - tests which reduce the "spaminess score" assigned by SA. The only one in the header I see now that increases spaminess score is the test URIBL_DBL_SPAM (Spamhaus DBL blocklist).

It's possible some of the text and/or formatting of the automated emails is increasing the spamminess score, at least how SA classifies mail.

Did you purge the bot accounts @[email protected] ? Can see a material decrease which is actually good

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Haha yeh i did there was around 3k bots accounts which I found and purged hadn’t liked or subscribed to any communities and their email was a distinct pattern

Thanks for the vigilance - most seem to just be joining and staying quiet. They're like a ticking time bomb.

Just want to say - that alone, I hope, isn't automatically an assumption of them being a bot. I rarely comment on threads - the only reason I'm even commenting now, is so that I can show that I am, in fact, a human.

No need to worry - there were clearly patterns in the bot accounts that give them away. I imagine the vast majority or folks signed up here haven't posted so you could hardly rely on just that as your criteria.

HEADS UP

Using a yahoo email address (yes they still exist). I found if I added admin@ to my contacts and then did the password reset that the emails came through and worked find.

I had literally no emails from feddit.uk before that they didn't hit my inbox so I couldn't report as not spam. For anyone signing up now, it might be worth adding admin@ to your contacts before you try.

Trying to send mail from a domain registered in the last year is a nightmare. I get why ESPs have to be strict but it definitely puts an unfair burden on new businesses and organisations.

A friend of mine is trying to register -- says he's emailed the admins twice but not heard back...

Sorry I've been really busy the last few weeks they should be verified now

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks Tom. All sorted now.

I have been able to get onto the web interface by doing the password reset trick, after emailing twice about verifying my email and getting no reply. But I don’t seem to be able to log in via apps, like Memmy or WefWef, as they both still say my email is unverified.

edit: I am not the person referred to by @[email protected]

Sorry I’ve been really busy the last few weeks you should be verified now lmk if you're not

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

No worries, and thank you!

Received the verification email just fine (Fastmail) but then it took some effort to actually follow the link as my VPN (Windscribe) blocks all "tracking" links. Might confuse other users too.

Is this still being an issue for people?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, I just tried to sign up and didn't get a verification email, but managed to use the forgot password to receive an reset password email (that did arrive) and that got me logged in and hopefully verified...
