Honestly I sail through the month with little awareness of pay or bills, and occasionally glance to check that they're being paid.

And wow, when I think about that and remember a different time, I am thankful as fuck.

We were so poor, we once cherished the gift of some blue paint leftovers for it meant we could cover our plywood floors and keep the splinters down since we had neither carpet nor anything else on the home dad and mom bought and intended to fix up before 1983 and 17% mortgages happened.

We're not awesome, but some economic mobility was possible for us.
