At least in the "fediverse" it's possible to maintain a much cleaner separation between those communities. Like, the server I'm on has this very explicit programming focus (Can't believe this domain name is a thing ๐) and I'm sure there's a server out there for horny peeps who just want to look at porn. Both can have drastically different rules in regards to posting, commenting and such and if a server's admin pulls the plug for one reason or another, the rest of the "network" stays up. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Would just be nice if there was a way to backup, sync or migrate accounts between federated servers. I expect things will fluctuate quite a bit as many of us take refuge in various servers. Especially if reddit moderation bots get crippled, third party apps die and old.reddit gets the boot, flooding lemmy/kbin servers with more users than some can handle, financially-speaking.
