I think I’ve just made the worst decision ever.
I decided to wash my oodie and it’s so heavy water now. The washer couldn’t cope with the weight of it when it tried to spin it down (on gentle).
I’m now turning on the heating to help it dry, I don’t even know if I can get it dry at this rate.
I have backup oodies thankfully but this is the worst weather to be washing it in.
Dumb decision by me and yours truly.
This has to be the most wholesome community on the internet, we’ve come together to troubleshoot how to dry oodies.
I haven't used a Oodie how does it compare to a Onesie?
It's just like an "oversized" jumper. I put "oversized" in brackets because while yes technically that is its core function, it's only oversized to a small population. Like a size XS wearing an XL shirt and calling it "oversized". But anyways, yeah it's just a big jumper but it has a fleece like lining.
Maybe try layering it on top of a dry towel (like flat drying knits), to help pull the moisture out?
I'll add to this, you can put it on a towel, and another towel on top, and then roll it up tight and squeeze it etc. Repeat if desired. Will help with initial moisture quite a bit
Hmm ok though I’m scared there might be still a lot of water inside the fabric.
It holds a surprising amount of water and was so heavy I almost couldn’t lift it out of the machine.
I did take it outside and tried to wring as much water out as I could, ended up drenching myself in the process however.
Well yeh your towels would get wet but that's the idea, move some of the moisture out of oodie into towels, they'll dry quicker as three things versus one
Hmm yep that would make sense to take the water out that way.
Peet treadles.
Seriously, wrap wet clothing in a dry towel and dance away on top of it. Your weight causes the water to express and the towel immediately captures it.

I’ve never had something like this happen before so I’m not really sure what would be the best way.
I wash my oodie (along with as many blankets or other bulky things I can accumulate) at the laundromat for this reason. Definitely would not have washed it today. Good thing you have backups
I’ll keep that in mind for next time I decide to do that or least do it on a much warmer day.
My blue koala is the one I washed.
I have a Kmart one which is what I’m using now but I also have a lavender one with bunnies which is still vacuum sealed from a 2 for 1 sale that I got with the koala one.
DT people convinced me a couple of years back to buy a dehumidifier.
It works wonders on drying the laundry and my Oodie in particular.
Hopefully yours doesn't take an eternity to dry

Turn it off and turn it back on again. I kid you not.
I just tried it and it’s not working to spin the water out of the items now :(
I think my washing machine is broken on the spin cycle :(
get a bucket and put the wet items in there
then set your machine to drain and drain it
then put your ooodie in your biggest sink and wring it by hand bit by bit
get as much water out as you can
then try it in the machine again on spin cycle only, no water
Can I ask why to drain and drain again?
I think what’s happened is that it’s come off it’s railing or something for the spin when I had the oodie in there and it’s come off and now doesn’t spin the water out of things.
I put a towel in to test but it doesn’t spin.

Can you put it back in and spin it on a higher rotation?
I could do the drain and spin cycle but I’m not sure if it’s harsher than the gentle cycle I was using.

Ok so what probably has happened is it's overbalanced. What you can do is put it back in and put a large towel or 2 on the opposite side and spin again. When you wash pillows they recommend putting 2 in for this reason.
I think it happened one other time when I washed something that was big and heavy and it was overbalanced.
Do I just do the drain and spin cycle or is that too harsh for an oddie? If I put in the delicate cycle it’ll wash it again.
Yes just the drain and spin. What's happened is the item is too heavy for a gentle spin so a normal spin with dry towels on the opposite side will help.
Oh my god. The oodie broke my washing machine. I just found out it won’t spin.
I’m so screwed. I have no money to replace it. Fuck why does life hate me so badly.
I can’t get it to spin and when I lift the hood it doesn’t stop or sense that I’ve opened the hood.

Ok. Don't panic. Turn it off at the switch. Take the items out. Give it a few minutes then test it out with a tea towel.

I think the spin and rinse cycle is broken.
I just a test on using a heavy cycle and it filled up with water and spun.
I’m going to do a complete cycle and see what happens.
What may have happened is you've put Mr oodie in on a gentle cycle when in fact Mr oldie is a big mf who holds a lot of water. Now the poor little machine you have is working overtime to move Mr oodie around plus its over balanced. Let the motor cool down then try a tea towel or something light so you can see the final outcome without having a shit load of sopping wet items. Sometimes machines just need to reset.
I’ve got one light item in running at the moment. The first part of the cycle worked.
The 2nd part of the cycle where it spins the water out doesn’t work at all.

How old is your machine?
I’m not sure. I’ve had it for quite awhile.

It was working fine before I put the oodie in as I did a load before that today.
It's a little on the old side. Now listen. Unplug it and leave it alone tonight. Let the motor cool right down.Tomorrow, do a little test on the gentle cycle.

What you said was right that it was overbalanced and I think what’s happened is that it’s come off the railing or whatever it is that makes it spin dry.
I’ll have to come accept of it doesn’t come good that I’ll have to either wring the water out or just have the clothes drip dry from now on.
Sorry for the delay. I was having an anxiety attack and needed to talk to someone even though I got a lecture back in return.
Oh mate. No one deserves a beating when they're suffering an anxiety attack. Hopefully the motor just needs a rest. Let us know what happens.
It was with my dad. I told him what had been happening in my life and with the washer breaking. I just needed an his ear and I told him I what I was going through with my partner as he didn’t know that side of it.
Just piled into me a little harder than I would have liked because I’m aware of my situation and the choices I have made, whether right or wrong.
A lot of what he said was right but not all of it I hope.
Just the washer breaking down was the last thing I needed at the moment while I was financially stressed with supporting my partner.
I guess worst case I drip dry the clothes or use a laundromat.
Ok. One last question. Put it in normal or inside out?
Inside out is fine. When you get it out give it a good shake then hang up to dry. Shake it every now and again.

Just turned inside out like you’ve suggested and I’ve hung it up on a door.
Fingers crossed it might be dry in a day or three.
Make sure you're wringing it out, and not just by, well, wringing it. People used to use mangles to get all the water out, so you can use a similar concept even today - essentially scrape down it (in a way that won't damage it) and just drag the water out that way.
