Could be, I'm used to people claiming Colorado was part of Mexico and not knowing the history.

Mexico was a result of Napoleon defeating Spain in 1808. It operated as an oligarchy until 1855 when it elected an actual government. It sold Texas and Northern Mexico to the United States in 1848 in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo for $10 Million.

Mexico as it is today was established in 1920 after a decade of Civil Wars between 1910 and 1920.
