Jeez, this makes my gut ache.

Is civilization just a temporary thing, unraveling everywhere all at once?

I have two pieces of bad news for you.

  1. Even a cursory reading of history says that civilization is a temporary thing, largely because they tear themselves apart from their own inner contradictions.
  2. When civilizations unravel it is usually with stunning speed, and while in some cases it's replaced with something approximately similar (c.f. Chinese dynasty changes), in most cases it is replaced by barbarism that can last for a very long time before the next attempt at civilization is made. (Which in the end also fails.)
