A few highlights:

There is a radio station in certain areas (probably the main cities)
No ground vehicles
Fully scanning/researching a planet nets money
10% of planets have life
Stolen ships are fully upgradable, but require registration which costs money
Both in-depth ship building and outpost building are for late game; ship upgrades can be done any time, but the in-depth builder is much more expensive
The inside of your ship is customizable and reflects the outside/modules you use

Nice info here. Todd also said something to the effect of him being there to manage expectations. Wise move imo.
