I seriously doubt anyone is receiving 5000 notifications a day.

Sounds like they are using the wrong term for “app thread gets posted or updated”. Just because someone is posting to Facebook doesn’t mean anyone is looking at it.

Have discord mobile.

Be in a big, active room. Or multiple active rooms.

Have notifications on.

Easy.

So you’re letting your phone vibrate or ping every 17 seconds? That sounds unnecessarily annoying.

I don't; but I can easily see how one could if they didn't bother turning them off (which if you're not disabling the entire app from pushing them, you need to disable it for every server/channel you don't want notices for).
