I think it was a method made by the royal family (hence why it would check if you're registered as a royal) as a shortcut to getting some form of copy of the Book of Mestionora. Wonder whether it's a collection of knowledge in there or some form of magic tool that you would fill with mana so you could recreate it like divine instruments.
Oh I am absolutely certain that a later Zent made this room, otherwise Schwartz and Weiss, who were created by a Princess, would not be such an integral part of the mechanism.
