An “extremely active” shooting situation is ongoing in Pittsburgh after authorities attempted an eviction, city spokesperson Maria Montano said Wednesday.

Shots are “continuing to be fired” after the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office tried to evict a resident in the Garfield area and the suspect opened fire on deputies, officials said.

So die in a hail of bullets while shooting at cops? Doesn't seem like the best solution.

[–] givesomefucks 26 points 1 year ago (3 children)

This ain't the first time in American history this happened...

During the great depression when a bank showed up with a Sheriff to repossess and evict, the whole community was there with their guns.

If people hadn't done that, America would have been hurt a lot worse.

The difference is cops used to back down, because they can't win against a whole community where they also.lived. Now people mostly have to stand on their own and cops routinely live an hour plus away from where they work.

I'm willing to bet there are more people with guns in Philly than there are cops, it's just only one group is standing united. If people stood united, the cops would back down and there's be zero violence

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

But how are we supposed to be united with our neighbors when my favorite color is purple and theirs is orange?? And I mean, don't get me started on the pineapple! They can go fuck themselves if they think I'm going to stand with them!

eviction resistance

[–] FlyingSquid -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How would this shooter's death change anything?

[–] givesomefucks 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm saying when one person does this, they lose.

When entire communities do this, they win.

About as simple as I can make it, hope it helps, but you didn't seem to get this last time either

If people stood united, the cops would back down and there’s be zero violence

[–] girlfreddy 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When it's a choice between a quick death-by-cop or a slow death from having to live on the streets, the choice can be simpler to make. :(

[–] FlyingSquid 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You might be able to eventually improve your life and get off the streets. That won't happen if you're dead.

[–] _wintermute 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You literally won't fucking care if you're dead lol?

[–] FlyingSquid 6 points 1 year ago

Sure, it's the solution to all of life's problems.

[–] girlfreddy 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You've obviously never lived there.

[–] afraid_of_zombies 0 points 1 year ago

I have one, the only plus was I still had a car to sleep in, at least for a little while before it got towed. Fun fact, I learned about the bank bailouts from my car radio while this was going down. I remember thinking that at this moment if I could I would detonate every nuke on earth and send us back to square one.

[–] FlyingSquid -4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Are you saying no one ever gets off the streets? Because that's just blatantly false.

[–] girlfreddy 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm saying you seem to have no idea of how difficult it is to do because taxpayers don't want to spend money on housing and social programs to help people get off the streets.

[–] FlyingSquid -1 points 1 year ago

I never said it wasn't difficult. Of course it's difficult. You know what would make it impossible though? Being dead.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

they said you didn't get off the streets.

[–] FlyingSquid -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

maybe you should go back and read what has been happening in this thread. neither of us could have been clearer but you don't seem to want to understand the words in the order they've been presented.

[–] FlyingSquid 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You told me they're saying I personally didn't get off the streets and you think that's clear? Again: What?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

maybe you need to read for more context.

[–] FlyingSquid 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There is no context in which I'm on the streets. Sorry. Believe it or not, you don't know me.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

we KNOW you're not on the streets. that's exactly what they said.

then you extrapolated it to mean that no one ever gets off the streets, which is not what they said.

[–] FlyingSquid 0 points 1 year ago (2 children)

YOU told me that I didn't get off the streets.

Is this some weird sort of gaslighting you're doing now?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] FlyingSquid 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes. I read it. And then you sad I never get off the streets. It still doesn't make sense if you add the two comments before it. I know you want me to be on the streets for some reason, but I'm still not on the streets.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

obviously you didn't get off the streets: you were never on the streets.

[–] FlyingSquid 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And yet you told me I was. I even shared the screenshot where you did. So make up your fucking mind.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you will not find me saying you were on the streets

[–] FlyingSquid 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I literally posted an image of you literally saying that. What is this gaslighting bullshit?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you couldn't have because I didn't

[–] FlyingSquid 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

that's not me saying you were ever on the streets.

[–] FlyingSquid 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What the fuck? What is this gaslighting you're doing? Do you really think it will work?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

anyone who reads this will understand exactly what i meant (except you, apparently).

[–] FlyingSquid 1 points 1 year ago

And yet you've not once explained yourself despite me posting that image twice, so I doubt it.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

that's exactly what they said to you. they said you didnt get off the streets.

[–] FlyingSquid 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I WAS NEVER ON THE FUCKING STREETS!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago
[–] CADmonkey 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You of course realize you can die that way without ever breaking a law or picking up a firearm?

That might be why people are getting harder to deal with.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Car accidents happen all the time, that is why at the first sign of a potentially dangerous situation, I quickly drive into a wall instead.

[–] schroedingershat 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Better than dying hungry and delusional from heat and thirst on the street because you weren't useful enough to the landed gentry.

[–] FlyingSquid 2 points 1 year ago

Again, there's a possibility you'll get off the streets which is not there if you're dead.

So many people here willing to let this person die for their cause.
