I heard about via some friends who are into privacy tools and open source software. I first joined Diaspora and then was introduced to Mastodon, Pixelfed, Misskey, etc.

I read a post on Slashdot years ago talking about the original server back in...2017? So joined, then migrated to cybre.space, then mstdn.social.
