I mean the only real contender I could imagine would be TOTK which is so much less accessible, and I can't see how it'd get any leg up on BG3. It's only on one console, and there's zero consideration for other experiences (there's not even separate sfx/music volume sliders, it's all the same channel)

I get Nintendo has everybody's nostalgia in a vise and TOTK is certainly a great game, but imo BG3 is all that with the addition of being able to play it where and how you want it with actual modern disability and experience considerations. Not to mention the performance difference (which isn't everything, but for people who get motion sick from choppy framerates it's not nothing either)

If starfield experiences a wholly different launch to every other bethesda game ever, then it's maybe in a similar playing field but I'd wager it's nowhere near as polished as BG3 is.

Tears of the kingdom is a typical Nintendo game. Fun, but very mid and extremely safe. The thing with tears too is that its 80% recycled content from botw with one new very interesting gimmick. It's a creative gimmick but one gimmick does not goty make.

Edit: as for starfield I have little to no interest in it, it's cool Bethesda is making a new ip but as a rule, Bethesda games are pretty mid as well. The only reason people still talk about skyrim is because of how moddable it is. It would have fallen into obscurity otherwise. It's a nice exploration game similar to the Zelda games, but that's all it really has to offer outside of the mods. But because of the mods it has infinity replayability. No two games are alike, and if you want. You can completely change your experience.

I dont know anyone who has recently talked about tears, let alone play it. It's no elden ring that has dominated my feeds the entire year it came out and even still finds its way in without searching for it specifically. Out of curiosity I checked twitch streams at peak hours and tears had 3k... when stardew valley had 6k. It just fails to really cement itself. It's a typical Nintendo experience. But like...how many endings are there? how many ways can you play link? What's the name of any new npc? The robot thing is cool but other than that it's just... breath of the wild.
