Socialist Workers Party

Our starting point is how to strengthen the fighting vanguard of the working class of which we are a part, so it is better armed to understand the world we live in, to learn from the history of the modern working-class movement, to become more conscious of our strength and historic responsibilities, and to chart a line of march toward overthrowing capitalism and taking political power.

The SWP fights for independent working-class political action in opposition to the parties of the bosses — the Democrats and Republicans.

Official home of the party: https://themilitant.com/

In the spirit of socialism and international solidarity, posts will be shared in both English and Esperanto.

Esperanto represents the ideal of a universal language, breaking down barriers between people of different nations, just as socialism seeks to unite the working class across borders.

Yeah, I really love them and their values. But like you said, they seem to be a little older and just don't have much of a presence. Which I get, cuz small staff, resources, etc.

So I just wanted to get their stuff out there and get a few eyes on them. I also started a mastadon account and a x.com account.

Unfortunately, Lemmy.world really really really hates third parties, so most of the stuff I post here gets downvoted. But I don't care, I'm putting it out in the world anyway.

Kind of a 'be the change you wanna see' sorta thing. I was wishing they had more web presence, and since no one else was putting anything out there, I decided, well I guess I would.

I actually subscribe to their newspaper. So it's fun getting old school newspaper in the mail every week, but I do wish they would modernize a little more.

Like the people who run the Claudia De la Cruz, Party for Socialism and Liberation stuff. The people who run that campaign are kicking ass! But I just skew more SWP. :)

Gotcha, understandable. I've suggested to party members that they start a podcast or something like that. I don't know why they've dragged their feet so much. The fate of humanity is on the line... Twitter has been around since 2007, it's kind of crazy they have no presence there before now.

I also skew SWP as well on core issues, (need for a labor party, need for a labor movement) but I find some of their views hard to understand. The paper often doesn't really explain the rationale for their line very well.

I agree. They mainly focus on straightforward reporting about their activities and some ongoing issues, but it doesn’t feel like a movement that people can really connect with. I want to help change that in my own way.

I’m currently working on an article/letter to the editor to submit, because I believe there are a lot of modern issues they should address, not just traditional topics like railroad worker strikes.

We’re facing challenges like AI, affordable housing, homelessness, and media monopolies. These are areas where they could get involved and draw more attention.

I’m also planning to work on establishing a local chapter of the Socialist Workers Party to give them more presence in my area, and to tackle these issues at a local level.
