Fundamental questions arise on whether we truly require privacy. One might question the necessity of privacy, thinking, “Why would someone like me need to hide something? Am I a criminal or a celebrity?”. However, there are genuine reasons why anyone should be entitled to confidentiality, regardless of their status. Privacy is a fundamental right and a matter of personal liberty. As privacy activists assert, it’s about ”liberty versus control”. Liberty requires security without, security plus privacy.

As the link details, this is a project by Google to add a system not only to web clients, but also to web servers, that performs Device Attestation so that the website can control how, and if, a web browser or a machine in general can visit it.

As expected from Google, this is basically a combination of DRM and Anti-Adblock. They try to sell it as a way to """"only"""" perform nonidentifying checks, but in the same document in their section of open issues they leave to the air how to prevent their users (websites) from using it to discriminate web browsers that don't complain with certain criteria (such as "be Google Chrome").

There are various Issues opened already to let these people know the evil they are creating. One notable is here (28), and this social media thread follows the more general issue.

Over the last 3 weeks of our data (June 21 to July 12, 2023), we saw a weekday daily tweet count drop from the 1,272 pre-Elon average to just 333 tweets a day, which is about a 74% drop in weekday tweets. The 2-week rolling average (including weekends) dropped down to 272 tweets over the final 2 weeks. When I attempt to remove automated CVE announcements (bots), the drop is even more significant, dropping from over 500 a day down to 66 over the last two weeks, an 87% decrease in CVE-related tweets.

From the discussion it seems most of the infosec people have moved over to Mastodon already which is nice.

Geddit is an open-source, Reddit client for Android without using their API. Many devs are working smart to bring us the content without API. Nitter is back, now Geddit.🍻

My dad told me to look into something called "parallel computing" but I don't really understand what it is or how to put it into practice.

I have a raspberry pi 4, and two windows computers.

I can wipe the raspberry pi and one windows computer, but I am looking to run games (that can't currently run with just the one computer) on the other windows computer.

I apologize if I'm being dumb, I don't know as much about computers as I'd like.

They allege that OpenAI's ChatGPT and Meta's LLaMA chatbots were trained on datasets that included their copyrighted books, without their permission. The datasets in question were allegedly obtained from "shadow library" websites like Bibliotik, Library Genesis, and Z-Library. These websites are known for distributing pirated content.

For those not aware nitter is an opensource twitter frontend which has no ads or javascript.

Now it also bypasses the rate limits and other restrictions.

lemmy.world is a victim of an XSS attack right now and the hacker simply injected a JavaScript redirection into the sidebar.

It appears the Lemmy backend does not escape HTML in the main sidebar. Not sure if this is also true for community sidebars.

In the few short hours since I started using #Threads, #DuckDuckGo has already blocked over 200 data tracking attempts. These include things like "headphone status" and "screen density."

Threads (Meta's counterpart to Twitter) just launched today on both Android and iOS supposedly but when I go to the Play Store, it shows me this message (see screenshot). Anyone else have this issue?

Has anyone used this modded windows OS?

I've seen quite a few videos on youtube of it performing waaay better than normal windows & using less resources than even tiny10/11 windows.

I've seen quite a few people say they've used it for years with no issues or accounts stolen, but then I've also seen a few people claim that their version had malware on it- however I've also found that apparently there's fake sites with malware infested versions of it floating around & apparently there's versions of it on piracy sites that come pre-loaded with a bunch of pirated games, so perhaps those are where those malware reports are coming from.

Inactive Google Account Policy

A Google Account gives you Google-wide access to most Google products, such as Google Ads, Gmail, and YouTube, using the same username and password.

An inactive Google Account is an account that has not been used within a 2-year period. Google reserves the right to delete an inactive Google Account and its activity and data if you are inactive across Google for at least two years.

Google also reserves the right to delete data in a product if you are inactive in that product for at least two years. This is determined based on each product's inactivity policies.

How Google defines activity

A Google Account that is in use is considered active. Activity might include these actions you take when you sign in or while you’re signed in to your Google Account:

  • Reading or sending an email
  • Using Google Drive
  • Watching a YouTube video
  • Sharing a photo
  • Downloading an app
  • Using Google Search
  • Using Sign in with Google to sign in to a third-party app or service

Google Account activity is demonstrated by account and not by device. You can take actions on any surface where you’re signed in to your Google Account, for example, on your phone.

If you have more than one Google Account set up on your device, you’ll want to make sure each account is used within a 2-year period.

What happens when your Google Account is inactive

When your Google Account has not been used within a 2-year period, your Google Account, that is then deemed inactive, and all of its content and data may be deleted. Before this happens, Google will give you an opportunity to take an action in your account by:

  • Sending email notifications to your Google Account
  • Sending notifications to your recovery email, if any exists

Google products reserve the right to delete your data when your account has not been used within that product for a 2-year period.

December 1, 2023 is the earliest a Google Account will be deleted due to this policy.

We are building a framework on top of React and Node.js but with a twist. It has a declarative config file that let's you add auth or async jobs in just few lines of code.

Some of the features

  • auth: email, Google, Github, username
  • jobs: scheduled, triggered
  • type-safe backend <> frontend RPC
  • Prisma migrations
  • Auth UI which autoupdates as you change the Wasp config

Looking for feedback

If you tried it or want to try it now, I would love to get some feedback on what's missing. What does it miss to be competitive?
