‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Nears Major Global Box Office Record Ahead of Digital Release

Deadpool & Wolverine is now on the verge of overtaking Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi, thereby establishing itself firmly inside the list of the top 20 films in global box office history. It is also only $5 million shy of passing Barbie to become the 12th-biggest domestic box office hit of all time.

Deadpool & Woverline's current global haul stands at around $1.32 billion worldwide. Of this total, $631 million has come from domestic theaters and around $690 million from overseas markets. Deadpool & Wolverine is now just $4 million shy of passing The Last Jedi's $1.325 billion lifetime haul.

Marvel's Agatha All Along Gets Review-Bombed on IMDB

After three episodes, Marvel fans noticed Agatha All Along being review-bombed on various websites, most notably IMDb. While over 32% of its total 13,000 reviews gave the show a 10 out of 10, the next-highest rating in the list is a 1, with about 2,500 reviews (19% of total reviews) giving it the lowest score possible. As of writing, the show sits at a 6.7 average rating.

While only a few of the 1-star ratings have written reviews included, they comment on the series being "woke," "childish," and "amateurish" in terms of the writing specifically. This also includes commentary on Agatha being as bad, if not worse, than the lowest-quality projects that Marvel Studios has ever produced, especially on Disney+.

Iron Man: Did You Know The U S Government Forced A Major Plot Change In The MCU Film? Here’s How Tony Stark Went From Anti-Arms Dealer To Arms Dealer!

But this wasn’t just a matter of dialogue; it was about the entire portrayal of Tony Stark. Originally, the script depicted Stark as an anti-arms dealer—outraged by how his technology was twisted into destructive weapons. In his own words, he was trying to “save lives,” not destroy them. However, the Pentagon wasn’t on board with that narrative. Given their routine dealings with arms manufacturers, they pushed for a rewrite, forcing Stark to become an arms dealer himself.

Can Marvel’s Thunderbolts* avoid the mistakes of DC’s Suicide Squad?

The trouble with Thunderbolts* is that this is a superhero team made up almost entirely of all those Marvel characters you had completely forgotten existed. Not the cool ones who get their own Funko Pops. We’re talking about the B-team – the backup Avengers. The ones who showed up to the superhero cookout but left before anyone got to taste the chimichangas.

...

It recalls DC’s unfortunate Suicide Squad (2016), which brought us a host of antiheroes nobody had ever heard of and expected them to pack out the multiplexes. This despite Will Smith playing an assassin who’s more used to discussing his feelings over a smoothie than actually killing anyone, and the debatable merits of Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress and her remarkable perfection of the art of evil voodoo ballet.

Source: Cinemablend 2024.09.27 'It Really Felt Like That Was A Wish.' Shawn Levy Just Made Deadpool And Wolverine, But Doing An R-rated Movie For Marvel Was Not Always In The Cards

When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and its properties, it finally opened the door for characters like Deadpool to join the MCU in an upcoming Marvel movie. This was a thrilling concept, but fans worried about whether or not Ryan Reynolds' franchise would still be permitted to be rated R. Levy spoke with The Ankler about concerns he was being pigeonholed in his career with family-friendly content. And when asked if he thinks he's finally achieved a full rounded career with an R-rated MCU blockbuster like Deadpool 3, Levy said:

"Maybe. But for many years, it really felt like that was a wish, not a goal. Because if you get success at one thing, they want you to keep doing that one thing. For me, that was broad family comedy. Because I’ve been spending a lot of time recently with Hugh (Jackman) and Ryan (Reynolds) and on airplanes, I’ve been thinking about the arc of my career, probably because I’m in middle life. (Levy is 56.) I’m having a unique moment with this movie. And I’ve been thinking back to the steps along the way."

WandaVision Creator Weighs In On Scarlet Witch’s Doctor Strange 2 Being So Wildly Different From Her Arc On The Show

WandaVision became a Emmy winning success and all-out sensation upon its release, making Wanda into a top tier MCU character. Fans watched as Elizabeth Olsen's character processed her grief, and eventually sacrificed her family in order to set the town of Westview free. But when she returned for Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda was an evil murderer. Fans were bothered by this, and WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer spoke to RadioTimes about handing off her narrative, saying:

"I love Wanda and I love all the characters that I’ve had the privilege of working with; Natasha [in Black Widow], Carol Danvers [in Captain Marvel], everybody. But one of the agreements of being part of the MCU is you're kind of borrowing characters and storylines for a time. You get your experience with them, and then things continue, which is one of the wonderful, special things about the MCU. A lot of my friends and colleagues were on that film."

Shawn Levy’s Movies Have Grossed More than George Lucas' at the Global Box Office

Deadpool & Wolverine has generated over $1.3 billion globally, and is currently among the top 20 films in box office history. It’s also the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, and one of the top 10 Marvel films ever made. For Levy, however, the film holds a greater significance. Thanks to its record-breaking success, his career box office has now passed the $4 billion mark. To be precise, Levy’s feature films have generated a combined global box office total of $4.03 billion. Including the films that he has produced, his total career box office stands at nearly $5 billion globally.

With a $4 billion career haul, Levy is now the 19th-highest grossing director of all time, behind Chris Columbus ($4.09 billion) and James Wan ($4.1 billion), and ahead of Roland Emmerich ($4.01 billion) and Jon Watts ($3.9 billion). Only recently, Tim Burton became the ninth-highest grossing filmmaker of all time thanks to the success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. For further context, the legendary George Lucas' six films have generated $3.4 billion worldwide. Levy has also experienced major success on streaming, having executive produced and directed episodes of Netflix's platform-defining hit, Stranger Things.

‘I Knew Immediately It Would Work’: Hugh Jackman Recalls How Wearing Wolverine’s Yellow Suit For The First Time On Deadpool 3 Brought Him Closer To The Character

Before Deadpool & Wolverine, the only other time Wolverine’s yellow costume was depicted in live-action was in a deleted scene from The Wolverine, when Yukio gave him a case containing said costume. During Hugh Jackman’s run as Wolverine during the main X-Men film series when 20th Century Fox was still around, his character was slicing and dicing folks up in either civilian clothing or some kind of black leather getup.

"When I got in the yellow and blue, I knew immediately it would work. It felt amazing. I felt more grounded, deeper, connected than I ever had before in the 24 years."

"I was astonished at how we never tried it and never looked at it, but when I see it, particularly with that cowl, I feel more than ever before me, Hugh Jackman, is lost, gone. It’s just Wolverine."

Samuel L. Jackson didn't think he would live long enough to fulfill his Marvel contract: "I didn't know they were gonna make nine movies in like two and a half years"

"I knew I had a nine picture deal when Kevin said, he was like, ‘We wanna offer you a nine picture deal’ I was like, 'How long I gotta stay alive to make nine movies?'" said Jackson in an interview with GQ. "It's not the quickest process in the world and people don't do it, so I didn't know they were gonna make nine movies in like two and a half years. Which is kind of crazy. I was like 'Oh shit, I'm using up my contracts!' but it worked out."

When asked for his favorite Nick Fury moment ever, the star replied, "In Winter Soldier when he's in that car. I mean that's like quintessential Nick Fury. It's like, okay, no panic, he’s cool figuring out, you know, make the next move, make the next move, make the next move. Badass, badass shit."

Source: ScreenRant | 2024.09.26 Mephisto's MCU Confirmation Addressed By Agatha All Along Showrunner

In an interview with Total Film, Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer was asked about the MCU finally establishing that Mephisto exists in the franchise. Schaeffer made it clear that it was a nod to the many theories that sparked during her first MCU show, WandaVision, as she shared the following:

"That was a nod, definitely, yes. [...] So the fan theories themselves don't inform like the actual plotting that I do or that Marvel does either. It's really more, I like to think about what is the thing people are engaging on? Like, what is the thing that's sort of lighting them up? And is it the thing that's lighting me up? That's where I feel that I'm successful and my team is successful, when we can find that sweet spot of we are excited about it, it's making our brains tingle, and making us want to dress up, but it’s also having that effect on fans."

"With these shows, so often there is something that is at once a joke and a wink and a nod, and actually has something legitimate underneath. As we all know, Mephisto is a character who's very wrapped into Agatha's storyline. I mean, people have to watch, but we're always playing with the audience in that way."

Deadpool & Wolverine makers aim for Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Hugh Jackman; to pitch film in multiple categories

As per a Variety report, Disney, the company bankrolling the Marvel film, will campaign for it in major technical categories at next year’s Oscars, and even make a push for Hugh Jackman in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Variety reported, quoting sources that as far as Oscars are concerned, Deadpool & Wolverine will aim for nominations in technical categories, including production design, sound, and visual effects. But trade insiders are not sure if an Oscar nomination will materialise given the buzz around the film isn’t one of critical praise but commercial success.

The report also mentions that the film aims to position itself as a comedy and vie for all major awards at the Golden Globes, including Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for Ryan Reynolds and Best Supporting Actor for Hugh Jackman once again. The film is almost a certainty, Variety says, in the Golden Globes’ recently-introduced Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, which celebrates films that have achieved both critical praise and commercial success.

Agatha All Along's Biggest Mysteries Spoiled By Funko Pop Characters

Who Aubrey Plaza Is Really Playing In Agatha All Along

I had my heart set on Aubrey Plaza reprising her role as the Shadow King from Legion, but she's playing a much bigger character in the MCU who was originally left out of Avengers: Infinity War. According to pictures circulating the internet, she's taking on the role of Death. In the comics she was a major factor in Marvel's Infinity War comics, but the Russos opted not to bring her to their adaptation.

Who Joe Locke Is Really Playing In Agatha All Along

CinemaBlend's Nick Venable dropped a few guesses on who Joe Locke is playing in Agatha All Along, and one of them was right on the money. I'm sure many people thought "Teen" was Billy Maximoff, but there was still speculation on whether he'd adopt the Wiccan persona in this miniseries. Based on the Funko Pop reveal, it's looking like he will be doing that, though we can't say that with absolute certainty until we see it on screen.

Who is the most lucrative character from the MCU, as Deadpool and Wolverine is set for streaming services?

KingCasinoBonus went to task to find that out, with their methodology involving collecting financial data for each film, including the Deadpool series, and the total global box office earnings per character.

That was then referenced with sales information from both the Disney Store and Marvel Store, looking at the number of items for each character on sale and their respective prices. That was then boiled down into “profitability points,” leading to the top ten ranking below.

According to KingCasinoBonus, their research shows that despite taking on the role of Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers movies and the potential to “diminish” his previous role, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is still considered the most lucrative MCU character to date.

He has a profitability score of 8.3, taking into account the £9,255,956,022 taking at the box office with films Iron Man predominantly features in. Tom Holland’s beloved Spider-Man takes second place with a profitability score of 6.2, with his box office totals reaching £7,512,243,225.

Top ten most lucrative MCU characters (as of September 2024)

  1. Iron Man - 8.3
  2. Spider-Man - 6.2
  3. Captain America - 5.1
  4. Black Widow - 4.1
  5. Thor - 3.8
  6. Falcon - 3.8
  7. Black Panther - 3.8
  8. Nick Fury - 3.3
  9. The Hulk - 3.3
  10. Doctor Stranger - 3.1
