I'm currently reading this book and found it to be quite accessible even for someone who's not very tech-savvy (me). I think people of lemmy may appreciate its discussions of how to break up the big techs, the way big techs keep users by essentially holding them hostage, etc. I'm also a huge fan of its publisher (Verso) :)

This book was incredibly good!!! So much tech history that adds a much needed context to our current situation. AND solutions!

Hey, I recognize that name!

Just grabbed the audiobook from my local library.

Have a summary of what you’ve read so far? Found a short review. And a longer one from AP.

He has been in the blogosohere for a long time, and wears a cape in xkcd lore.

So he's the guy. Ok, I'm interested in what he has to say. Before we had the word it was just an uneasy feeling that everything keeps getting worse. Now it's much easier to think about the unstoppable enshittification march big companies insist on.

Doctorow was a guest on Adam Conovers Factually, which is where I first heard his Enshitification. I think it was Adams best podcast to date, def worth the YouTube search and subsequent upvote

I gave this book to my girlfriend for her birthday. She likes it but can only read a couple of pages at a time before getting too upset over Facebook and those things.

I've been wanting to read his work for ages! Thanks for the recommendation, looks like a good one to start with.
