I assume skunks need to eat something with sulfur in it for them to produce more of their liquid after spraying. What would provide that element to them? Is it something they would need to seek out specifically after spraying or is it present in lots of foods?

The only answer I can come up with in my limited understanding is "the demand vs supply of goods is increasing everywhere, but moreso in countries that aren't the USA." Is that accurate? Is there more to it?

Title. Is this just a symptom of anxiety or overactive imagination? What's actually causing those sensations and is there a purpose to them?

ELI5: - how does my purple shower gel and my blue shampoo not colour my skin the same colour as it has been designed to look? It's a colorant, a pigment isn't it? How the hell does it just turn to soapy goodness without leaving me the colour of a Smurf?

Sometimes forensic investigators bemoan the lack of "sufficient" DNA for testing.

Isn't an individual's entire genome embedded in each cell? So theoretically as long as you have a single cell of DNA and digitize it, that should be sufficient?

Original Title: ELI5 Why is packaging volume always a weird number? Like a toothpaste with 154g, or pack of sweets 54g? Why can’t they just round it all off to 150/155/55g? How is it even determined in the first place?

Idk it was kinda a shower thought I had and it’s got me thinking.

Is it that during compilation, the compiler tries to compress and optimize the code in such a way that it "grows roots" into the assets (or vice versa) that if the asset is removed without proper care, the whole thing will collapse into itself? Like, the compiler realized that part of the binary code in one part of the program coincidentally is the same as a snippet of binary code in a nearby asset, so it chops code out to save space?

If people are eating much more processed food and are exposed to more carcinogens than they were in the past, why isn't cancer more common than it used to be? I read somewhere that the rates of cancer have remained the same for all of human history. Maybe my facts are just wrong.

Of course now that it's all released, it's entering the water table down stream. Will this lead to more rain anywhere? Swampier conditions? Will it be completely unnoticeable after a couple weeks aside from the flood damage, water shortages, etc?

What will the eco system in the area that used to be covered by the reservoir be like in the short to medium term?

I've always heard that the decibel scale for hearing is logarithmic, and I've recently learned that our eyes view and compare objects logarithmically as well. How exactly does this process work, and is it different between the eyes and the ears?

We have photos from space but I assume the cameras are very sensitive and photos are take with long exposures. Or they’re edited a lot. But if we were floating in space right now and saw, say, Neptune with our naked eyes, what would we see?

Even if it’s not the same, it may still be close enough. How can we know what to do with the vocal chords in order to reproduce the sound?

Prior to GPS, how did pilots on long flights keep track of their direction of flight, given that they needed to aim where the destination would be many hours in the future, and that location is constantly moving due to the spin of the earth?
