Source: Collider: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Global Box Office Passes Monumental Milestone

With $621 million domestically and another $683 million from overseas markets, Deadpool & Wolverine’s cumulative global haul has now passed the massive $1.305 billion milestone. The film is on the verge of overtaking the $1.33 billion lifetime haul of Black Panther, which earned Marvel its first-ever Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. Deadpool & Wolverine has steadily been climbing up the global box office rankings, having out-performed all but five MCU movies. It trails only Black Panther, Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion), The Avengers ($1.5 billion), Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.9 billion), Avengers: Infinity War ($2 billion), and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion).

You probably saw this argument being made if you saw any discussion about Wolverine's height after the movie came out: "Short Wolverine works in the comics, but doesn't work in movies, Deadpool 3 proves it."

There's so much stuff wrong with that point that I don't know where to start. But some point must be made first.

This rant is not about the height of Wolverine, but to show how this argument makes no sense and how it effectively has no thought behind it, but to evidence this, a quick paragraph explaining Wolverine's height is important:

Wolverine's name comes from the animal of the same name, a rather small animal capable of preying on bigger animals. A very ferocious creature. Wolverine is just like a wolverine. Small, ferocious, and takes down bigger creatures, like Wolverine facing off Hulk. In the comics we often see Wolverine just quietly in a bar being underestimated due to his height. They often call him "runt". The result is Wolverine cuts them.

Understanding that, one thing already enters in question about the "doesn't work" argument. What doesn't work? Wolverine was designed to be underestimated and then show his ferocity besides his size. What people that make this argument think Wolverine is the screen is supposed to look like?

Wait, there's more. That scene is not an honest scene. Movie magic works there to make a short Wolverine into a joke. People that make this arguments ignore camera angles, effects, the scenario, the extras and that:

The body double for "comic accurate" Wolverine is 4'11"/1,50cm. While Wolverine is 5'3"/1,60cm.

This part can be skipped due to being a little bit off-track:

Can it really be called comic accurate? See, if we got a recurring 1,50 Wolverine, we would probably call it comic accurate in relation to his height right? Even tho it's not exact and it's more than 5cm off. But I think for the context of this movie, it's insincere to call him comic accurate. For an one-off appearance, that the character is called comic accurate in relation to 1 specific characteristic, there's no reason not to get body double with the same height or roughly it. For a cast, we understand the demands are more complicated, and that somethings may be off due to all the different things that must be attended for such a role. So for a long lastign actor with that height, sure we would say he's comic accurate as far as being short. But Deadpool 3 does this as a joke, and not due to not being reasonable to restrict the height of who they would cast for a body double more. Do you agree with this? I do already have some counter points against this, because this is really something I'm questioning, can it really be called comic accurate?

With that the movie exaggerated his height for comedic effect. And it would be no problem at all if they brought a 1,50cm Wolverine to the screen, but they did that for a cheap joke.

Here's another thing you notice at the scene with Wolverines from the multiverse: Deadpool gets cut violently by all of them, except the one in the cross and "comic accurate" Wolverine.

Remember X-23 in Logan? https://giphy.com/gifs/xUA7bcVA6VKDBoBmtG. That's Wolverine. It works when they want to work don't they. Did you know that Dafne Keen is 1,60 currently? Did she look off in Deadpool 3?

The scene with "comic accurate" Wolverine was designed with ill-intent. To convince people that a short Wolverine wouldn't work. They do that by getting a body double shorter than Wolverine(and who knows what other tricks they do in that scene that we don't know about), getting him to be the only Wolverine that doesn't cut the shit out of Deadpool. Well, I think the crucified Wolverine didn't get to do that too(correct me if I'm wrong), guess a short Wolverine is as powerless as a crucified Wolverine. That's the message they were trying to send I believe.

I guess the creators of the movie, and those that use the "doesn't work" argument all are just like the guys that underestimate Wolverine in the comics because of his height.

EDIT: Other thing in question is, a common argument is that a short man with his body is impossible. And I think like, so the solution is to stick with a tall man and lose the core of the character? Is this body type more important than his height? No, right? The height has much more meaning than whether or not he weights 195lbs(without adamantium). Ok, stop here, not going to get into he doesn't need to be so big(muscle wise) and talking about gymnasts like Arthur Zanetti for big in muscle and being short. It's being the main point of the rant. But it's kinda hard to to mention it.

Explaining why there aren’t 2 Wolverines at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine

The assumption many people took from deadpool & wolverine is that it takes place in between the DOFP ending (2023) and Logan (2029) meaning that at the end of D&W there is now 2 wolverines but this is not the case.

D&W and the first 2 deadpool movies exist in their own timeline that split off from the main Logan timeline at some point but is still anchored to it. When the OG Logan dies the main anchor timeline and all branch timelines of the #10005 universe start to decay together.

In the first 2 Deadpool movies, outside of a few fourth wall breaking jokes, we never get any indication that there is a wolverine in that world. We see the x-men cameo with no wolverine present and he’s not listed on any of the labels deadpool makes for the stuff in the fridge. We cant say for certain but it seems likely that the wolverine of this world has either already died or just has nothing to do with the x-men.

So basically you have; - The main OG anchor being wolverine from the original x-men and wolverine trilogy who dies in Logan. - You then have the DOFP bad future wolverine who goes back in time, changes the future, then merges with history teacher wolverine in the good future. - And finally you have D&W wolverine from a different universe that we never really see who comes to the #10005 deadpool timeline branch and becomes the new anchor being of that universe.

Its also because the Scott-Jean wasn't developed well at all in the original movies, I agree. But these two also looked legit good together on big screen.

I’ve always wondered why they’d cast such an old actor. Considering he could retire from acting at any moment.

My theory is that towards the ending of Brave new world Prez Ross gets assassinated during his speech at the White House, as shown towards the ending of the official trailer. He’ll be shot dead but the “other guy” will spit it out. This would be a reference to Bruce when he said “I put a bullet in my mouth but the other guy spit it out” and that sequence would parallel both their lives, considering Ross has once hunted Bruce like an animal only to become one himself.

After the Red hulk gets unleashed (as shown behind the podium as shown towards the end of the trailer) Ross permanently transforms into the red hulk, similar to Bruce.

I have a feeling this movie will be a one-off from Harrison Ford. He’s probably doing it just to leave his mark on the MCU, similar to how other A-list actors have in the past. That way, marvel studios can retain the CGI of Red hulk for all future projects and most importantly, the character will always be associated with a Hollywood legend.

Let me start by saying I am a huge Marvel fan. I've seen fans nitpick and overly criticize MCU projects, hating on them just because it's the cool thing to do. On the other hand, I've also seen hardcore fans ignore any constructive criticisms or simply deny that the MCU is declining. Trust me when I say this rant isn't because I'm a hater. I want the MCU to succeed. I love Marvel. But I walked away from Deadpool & Wolverine feeling completely empty and void, and now I finally understand why.

1. The movie missed the opportunity to focus on three great character-driven stories. First, Deadpool's self-worth crisis. He wants to matter, to prove he's not just a one-trick pony, but he's filled with insecurity and self-doubt. This is relatable and sad. Second, Deadpool's heartbreak over losing Vanessa to another guy because he failed. It's bittersweet to see the girl you love happy with someone else, especially when you feel responsible for the loss. Many of us can relate to losing someone we loved because we weren't good enough. Third, Wolverine's tragic story. He lost everyone he loved because he failed them. This plunges him into despair, especially since he can't die, even to escape his misery. It's a next-level tragedy.

2. Many scenes had nothing to do with these three compelling potential storylines.

-> Deadpool's kidnapping by the TVA shifts the focus to him saving his friends and the timeline. While there's a hint that Deadpool could become someone who matters by letting his friends die, it doesn't contribute to the story because we know he won't do that.

-> The sequence where Deadpool and Wolverine get pruned, fight, meet Human Torch, get kidnapped, meet Cassandra, and escape is unrelated to the emotional arcs. The only slight connection is when Cassandra messes with Deadpool's mind, showing Vanessa leaving him. This scene is sad but ultimately irrelevant because it’s never addressed again.

-> The subplot involving Nicepool and Dogpool adds nothing to the three potential emotional stories.

-> Scenes featuring Gambit, Blade, Elektra, and X-23 are cool but don't contribute to Deadpool's quest for significance, his attempt to win back Vanessa, or Wolverine's struggle to forgive himself. These scenes seem designed solely for fun cameos and because they need a team to fight Cassandra.

-> The storming of Cassandra's base to escape the void feels like a plot device to move the characters forward (because we all know that they cannot do anything as long as they are stuck in the void), rather than deepening the narrative.

-> The team-up between Deadpool and Wolverine to kill a bunch of Deadpools is just a cool visual, with no bearing on the three potential emotional storylines mentioned.

3. The fights are pointless and lack stakes.

-> Deadpool vs. Wolverine (First Fight): While it's visually exciting to see Deadpool and Wolverine battle on the big screen, the fact that neither can die renders the fight meaningless. At the beginning of the movie, it's clear this fight is just fan service. Deadpool has no real reason to fight Wolverine, and Wolverine's motivation is vague at best. This fight has no consequences or impact on the story and serves only to showcase some cool fight scenes.

-> Sabretooth Fight: Sabretooth looks impressive, even though he's missing his trademark sabretooth, which kind of defeats the name. The fight, which could have been epic, ends with Sabretooth being easily defeated. It's disappointing and turns into a joke.

-> Johnny Storm Fight: Johnny Storm appears, showing off his strength, only to be quickly defeated. This, too, turns into a joke.

-> First Fight with Cassandra: This fight is also pointless. Cassandra is too overpowered, and it's too early in the story for her to be defeated. With two characters who can't die and an overpowered villain in an inescapable place, the outcome is predictable. They will escape because the plot needs to move forward, and that's exactly what happens.

-> Deadpool vs. Wolverine (Second Fight): While the second fight between Wolverine and Deadpool is cool, we know it won't have any lasting consequences. It's just filler. After these two fights, nothing has changed or impacted the story. Removing these scenes wouldn't leave any noticeable impact, leaving fans feeling hollow despite the much-anticipated showdown. The only thing that came out of it was the "educated wish" line.

-> Tricking Cassandra with Juggernaut's Helmet: This scene is cool, as is the one where they storm the base. However, it still feels a bit empty because they keep talking about how Deadpool needs to save his friends, who are stuck in another dimension. This makes it obvious that Deadpool and Wolverine will escape the void; otherwise, the story can't progress. So there are no real stakes where they could lose or the team could fail. They will escape, no matter what, because the plot demands it.

-> Team-Up Fight Against the Group of Deadpools: This fight feels empty because we know the Deadpools won't die. Their decision to help Cassandra is unexplained. So, if those Deadpools won't die, the only way for Wolverine and Deadpool to progress is through plot convenience, namely Peter. While visually cool, the fight lacks stakes. There's no tension since Deadpool and Wolverine aren't genuinely threatened.

-> Final Scene: Cassandra, Deadpool, and Wolverine don't even meet in the final scene. Instead, Deadpool and Wolverine are in a basement. The film teases their potential deaths, but we all know that won't happen.

4. The entire movie feels like purgatory. It feels like the plot is more about "escaping the void" than anything else.

5. Lack of Stakes Due to Absence of Key Characters: Deadpool's loved ones only appear at the beginning and end of the movie, disappearing for the rest of it. This absence makes it hard to feel any real stakes since we barely see their interactions with Deadpool. Knowing their backstory from previous movies isn’t enough; their limited presence in this film fails to immerse us in the emotional stakes of Deadpool potentially losing them.

The majority of the movie features characters who have no personal connection to either Deadpool or Wolverine. Johnny Storm, Sabretooth, Pyro, Juggernaut, Elektra, Blade, Gambit, and even X-23 with Wolverine feel like strangers. The scene in the cave where Deadpool meets these heroes feels hollow because they are all unfamiliar, except for those trapped in the void who seem to have formed their own group. Cassandra, Paradox, Nicepool, Dogpool, and the legion of Deadpools also lack any personal connection to Deadpool. The film's attempt to focus on the emotional weight of Deadpool saving his friends falls flat when we spend so much time with characters who are irrelevant to his personal story.

6. Show, Don’t Tell: The film frequently hints at Wolverine's troubled past without actually showing it. While budget constraints might be a factor, this approach is frustrating. I immediately thought of the story where Wolverine is tricked by Mysterio into killing his friends, mistaking them for Sentinels. Without showing these crucial backstory elements, the film fails to engage us with Wolverine's character, relying instead on vague references that fall flat.

7. The movie turned everything into a parody, and one of the worst examples is the ending. Picture this: You're Wolverine, burdened with the weight of having caused the death of everyone you loved. You've been labeled the worst Wolverine in the entire multiverse, turned the world against your friends, and are trapped in a state of endless despair because you can't die. You even reach a point where you're ready to sacrifice yourself to redeem your failures, reminiscent of Yondu's sacrifice.

Then, just moments later, the TVA lady essentially says, "Well, all your past mistakes have shaped who you are today, so even if I could change anything, I wouldn't. Embrace your past failures, accept yourself, and move on!"

And Wolverine responds with, "Oh, cool. Let’s get shawarma."

This is a gross oversimplification of Wolverine's deep and painful past. It’s unrealistic and dismissive to resolve such a complex, traumatic backstory with a motivational message in a matter of minutes, or even hours within the movie's timeline. It reduces his struggles to a clichéd trope, making his past feel trivial and undermining the emotional weight that should have been there. This is poor writing, leaving me completely apathetic to Wolverine’s history, which was supposed to be a source of profound pain and growth.

Schreiber continued to reflect on the often disconnected experience of creating film and television, noting how removed actors can be from the audience's immediate reactions. "When you're making a television show, or you're making a film, I'm not in there with the audience, I don't know that anybody sees it. Of course, if you follow that sort of thing, you can see the numbers, that millions of people have seen it, but I generally don't follow," he explained. This made the ongoing support for his portrayal of Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine all the more surprising and touching. "I was so surprised that we had that many fans, and I was so surprised that people were campaigning for me to be in the new Deadpool movie," he added with a laugh.

However, Schreiber was candid about the physical demands of reprising the role of Sabretooth, a character known for his intense physicality and imposing presence. "To be honest, it's a lot of work getting your body up to that point. I know I watched Hugh [Jackman] get himself ready again, and I thought, 'I'm okay to sit by the sidelines,'" he admitted with a smile, acknowledging the effort required to get back into superhero shape was maybe something we wasn't quite keen on this time around.

"That was such a specific moment in time, and the reaction to that movie was just so unbelievable," he says, explaining he came to the realisation that, "It’s never going to be like this, ever again."

After working on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Watts has focused on Wolfs, a new action-comedy starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt as two rival fixers forced to work together.

"Sometimes you do an action movie, and all the fun action stuff is given to the second-unit director," he says. "On the Marvel movies, you split up the work because there’s so much to be done. Rarely do you get the Christopher Nolan opportunity to do all of it. On this one, I was like, 'I want to shoot every single shot.'"

"I was just getting started and Marvel came along - and I take full creative ownership over all those films - but Spider-Man is always going to be Stan Lee and Steve Ditko‘s creation," he says. "This was the chance for me to go back to my voice and my vision and my style. Wolfs is mine, and that’s a really good feeling."

It doesn't seem there are any hard feelings, though, because it was back in July when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said, "We love Jon. Jon did three of the best Spider-Man films ever for us. He's got lots of things going on now. So we'll probably be looking for somebody else, just because he's busy."

Everything was going smoothly just before Deadpool & Wolverine vs The Deadpool Corps fight. From there to the very end, the film turned from a Power Rangers crossover episode to an anime episode talking about friendship, sacrifice and over the top illogical moments. Marvel can't save themselves from this multiverse crap and giving bullshit explanation about nexus being, anchor, blah blah.

There should have been more moments with other Fox characters not just make them talk something and then fight.

Don’t mean to trigger the Gambit fans here. But help me understand.. Why all the hate on Channing Tatum as Gambit? I’m not a Channing Tatum fan, but D&W was meant to be comedic and funny, hence Tatum’s accent may have been exaggerated and made meant to be hilarious.

And heck, Hugh Jackman Wolverine isn’t even comic accurate. (6’2” vs 5’3”, and body type) i believe ppl love Hugh as Wolverine because of the nostalgia factor, but let’s face it, there may be more potential actors who would portray Wolverine even more accurately.

But Tatum as Gambit, people should give the man a chance. Yeah he looks like a friggin bouncer but if he really was serious about his role, who knows he may get into a shredding program? There’s also surgery lol.

We’ve yet to see him on an upcoming XMen movie in the MCU in the future. Hope y’all stay safe and have a good long weekend ✌🏻
